Blogging's NEW Low....Scatology of Sorts

I find it absolutely amazing what people find "appropriate" for discussion in their blogs. It appears that everything from bashing ex-spouses/significant others to badly written poetry is the norm, but a new low has definitely been reached. A MILESTONE! It is just beyond belief that anyone in their right mind would find it necessary to discuss taking a "healthy bowel movement" part of their daily blogging experience and perceived personal therapy. A blogging feat of scatology of sorts, if you wish to take literary license, to personalize the blogging experience to the nth degree with a no holds barred take.

I do understand quite well that journaling is good for the soul and I even keep multiple for real written journals--a grief journal regarding the loss of my late fiance' that no one will ever read, my daily historical journal for the coming generations in my family, and a writer's journal of the pratfalls, frustrations, observations, and novel topics to be pondered upon at a later date. As a creative writer who has watched the writing of fiction called lying in some blogs by the untalented, the writing of bodily functions of the "bathroom" variety has taken things to a new depth by my keen observation.

I think that there are times when discretion is truly the better part of valor when it comes to the written word and that some topics are just way too personal for the daily consumption by the reading public. I follow a number of blog sites and some very interesting "characters" to say the least, but I have never in my mind ever ran across anyone that had decided to openly discuss in their blog their particular bathroom habits. Initially I was just mortified, but then the hysterical giggles and cackling set-in in the worst way. Unfortunately as I write this missive, I find myself giggling to the nth degree and having to backspace far from my norm and my 100 WPM is suffering horridly.

As I stated, I read a number of blog sites when the mood hits and when I come across something of note, I have the bad habit of sending excerpts to a very good friend of mine in a major metropolitan area that is doctor of psychology and a professor emeritus of very well known college. I have worked with this psychiatrist on and off for many years with regards to journal articles and medical text books in his field, and he is an outstanding clinician as well as a good friend. It is truly amazing some of the feedback that I get from this kind, gentle soul of a man via e-mail, or when he rings me up every couple of weeks just to check-in. The dear man always asks me, "Where do you find this stuff?" I explain and he has stated that he is so glad that he is not that computer literate and would rather be out on the golf course in good weather. His favorite comment has been, "It is a shame that they have removed from the system involuntary commitment and can only place someone under protective care for 72 hours or less if they are a threat to themselves or society." He is all for people keeping a journal when needed. In fact, it was he that suggested that I keep the "grief journal" to work through the heavy duty and tragic loss that I faced, and he was more than correct in that uninhibited writing is a catharsis to aid in the grieving process. He informed me of a study done by the American Psychiatric Association that there are many people who blog about all their problems/traumas that should be under a clinician's care and who aren't, and relying on feedback from the untrained/unprofessional general populace. It is the APA's opinion that such individuals require competent care in a clinical situation. So, that is something to be taken into consideration.

So, in closing this missive out, it must be admitted that blogging has reached a new low, but then as the good doctor said to me, "Well, perhaps that this/these individual(s) required a public "brain flush" of sorts." Gotta love the ol’ Doc!

Writer's Note: There are some outstanding blog writers and I did not mean to neglect them nor lump them in with what I referred as to the "norm" above. They are thoroughly enjoyable in their various writing styles and moreso in their topics of choice from the sublime to the informative, etc.
