it is very late at my time, and I should be sleeping.
Past week had been extremely busy, yet also extremely fun. What I realised is that some of the people I work with are insanely intelligent, yet hide it so well.
During after work drinks, they are very sociable and chatty, and I had a great time talking with them.
However, at the workplace it is a different story. They are still friendly, but maintains a professionalism that is quite different to after-hours.
Going back to the intelligence thing - quite a few of my colleagues have gotten PHDs, as I've recently discovered. This is not a mere indication of intelligence (but pretty damned close). However, what has astounded me was the approach they have in analysing problems, and the way they meticulously think through all the minuscule details of a project for a client (usually a large company, multinational).
Often when I was presented with the same problem, I would never have thought it through in such detail, and was left in awe as to the way they in which they apply their analytical and problem solving skills in tackling problems.
I know I am reasonably intelligent and possess the skills required to get things done. However, some people's level of intelligence and ability to analyse problems just completely blew me away, and that is saying a lot. What I've come to realise is that there are some closet geniuses out there, who are just like you & me. On the street they appear to be ordinary human beings, but once you get to know them, you'll realise how intelligent these people are.
This has taught me not to judge or stereotype people just based on appearances or brief introductions.
