This time of year gets to me worse than any other time. I get so upset when someone passes away so close to the holidays. Why can't death wait until after the New Year to happen?
It seems to me that when someone you really love dies close to Christmas, it ruins that time of the year. All you can think about is the person that you lost. Christmas has a bad taste to it from then on.
Like last night. Somewhere about 6 pm on I 75 north towards Cincinnati, somewhere between the the Richmond, Ky mile marker 90 and the Winchester mile marker 95 a tragic accident happened. A woman was involved in an accident and pulled off to the left side of the road, She got out of her car to call the police and report the accident. While standing there, a car came by and hit her and flung her to the southbound lane, where another tractor trailor hit her again and leaving behind someone's daughter, perhaps mother or wife. A tractor trailer hit her as she was flung into the path of the oncoming traffic. Now you have three families whose lives have been turned upside down. I don't know if the first vehicle that hit her could have avoided it or not, but the trucker was a victim in all this. At the wrong place and at the wrong time. It was not his fault that he hit this woman. It was a freak accident. That is not a way that I would want to remember Christmas. I mean if death comes knocking at the door, why can't it be a beautiful meeting, instead of one like this one. It just makes me mad. Almost another year under her belt to have it snatched away with only 11 days to go. I know that death is hard anytime, but I would think that at the holidays, it would be worse. Traffic was tied up for hours. Where is the sense in a tragedy such as this? To me this would be anyone's worst nightmare. Nothing the truck driver could have done to prevent it.
Seems like perhaps the person responsible for the initial accident did not stop, but kept on going. Wonder what is going through their mind at a time such as this. Let us all take a little more precaution this time of year as there is more traffic on the roads. Drive carefully and keep yourself alert at all times. It just might save your life as well as others.

I know what you mean. It should not be allowed...death to happen around the holidays. It would be nice if the laws of Nature worked that way. But they don't and we do what we can to deal with it. Someone else had a blog similar to this talking about why there seems to be more death around the holidays. I think we just notice things more around the holidays. Our emotions are stronger...our expectations of good things and "magical" moments are increased. Sometimes we get let down, etc. Some or most of us go through a roller coaster of emotions this time of year without having to deal with death as well. It is a very emotional time of the year.

As I said in a blog awhile back, people often think they will live forever, when tragedy can strike at anytime on the highways, with the victim not being at fault whatsoever.
It reminds of the bus full of college baseball players that took a wrong exit ramp off a downtown Atlanta expressway, then went flying off a bridge into traffic below. A second before hand, who would have thought?

It is especially sad around the holidays for this to happen. I hear about tragic accidents every morning while heading to work and every evening while heading home. It truly is heartbreaking to hear about these.

There never seems to be a convenient time for death does there. Sadly, reported deaths in several categories increase this time of year.
Let us all take a little more precaution this time of year as there is more traffic on the roads. Drive carefully and keep yourself alert at all times. It just might save your life as well as others. Good points....but I would add, try to be more aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you, whether driving or not. We all have so much extra activity on our minds this time of year, it pays to be a little more aware.
Happy Holidays!

It is sad and much harder to deal with during the holidays. My best friend has her sister at her house right now. They will be burying my friend's sister's first husband, the father of her children. He was beaten to death.
Our hope is that, somehow through this awful tragedy, the family will pull closer together. They have been somewhat estranged.

Such a sad time of the year for alot of people. One of our racing families lost their newborn grandson this past Thursday. They will bury him tomorrow. He was a full-term baby weighing 7 lbs and 11 oz. There were complications with his oxygen level. His parents donated his heart valve to another newborn who was in need of a heart transplant. One of my husband's co-workers had a friend to shoot and kill himself in front of his wife and their 2 young children this past Friday night. A man that I used to rent from had his dad tragically killed in a hit and run accident 2 weeks ago. The lady that hit him was turned in by the people who were in front of her. They swerved to miss the man (who was checking his mail). When they arrested the lady she said that she was afraid to turn herself in because she's a single mom raising 2 kids and she didn't have insurance on her car. Now she's facing a MURDER charge. All of these families need prayers.....
