Ahhh... it's Christmas Eve, and everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit. (I've already had mine, Christmas and the spirit!).
Living in a small community has been both rewarding and challenging. A populace of 600 people leaves a social life a bit short. But there are many wonderful things too. Every year there is a community winterfest where everything is free - including the horse-drawn sleigh rides.
Christmas is always a busy time with many community events. Tomorrow, is a free community dinner for those that do not have family in the area. Tonight, and this could only happen in a small village, our local volunteer fire department will be driving the big red "sleigh" (truck) to every house in the community. They'll have their lights flashing and "santa" will knock on the door and deliver candy canes.
I remember the first year I was here, a little sad and alone at Christmas, watching TV when there was a knock at my door about 7pm. I opened it to find "santa" standing there with a candy cane to wish me a Merry Christmas - and my neighbours close behind to keep me company.
This is my third Christmas here, and I'm looking forward to helping set up for the community dinner tomorrow, my candy cane tonight, and spending tomorrow painting (as in art), and dinner with friends.
Living in this small community has been a wonderful experience - one that I will cherish when I move.
