Repent, all ye sinners. For I say unto thee, the poo-poo has hitteth the fan.

I was watching a show this week about Nostradamus and the 2012 phenomenon. Yes, I've blogged about the year 2012 before, and yes, I know some of you think I'm two bulbs short of a twinkle-light strand. For those of you who haven't read that earlier blog or are unfamiliar with the 2012 prediction, there is modern computer model evidence along with seemingly identical predictions of half a dozen ancient cultures that the world is going to end (in some form or fashion...even if only metaphorically) on December 21, 2012. The calendar just comes to an end. Nostradamus apparently agreed, and the TV show on the History channel detailed how he seems to share a view that the cataclysm has something to do with the sun aligning for the first time in 26,000 years with the center of our universe, the Milky Way. But he alluded that the forms of devastation the human race would encounter would include financial collapses, war, famine and the increase of horrific weather and geological phenomenon. Pretty much the entire book of Revelations, for all you Christian readers...

Which made me ponder our current events. The weather is getting weirder by the day, from global warming, polar ice melting, enormous hurricanes, tsunami of the century and have you looked at Washington State recently? Add to that the fact that Yellowstone National Park sits atop a mega volcano that has recently crossed over into a "red stage" meaning it could violently errupt at any time (mega volcanoes are capable of destroying entire countries and blotting out the sun for months, perhaps years. Earthquakes are increasing. Honey bees are disappearing, as are bats...for reasons scientists are helpless to explain. Without honey bees, most of the crops on our planet will fail and most of the people on it will die. Now, let's look at wars and rumors of wars. India and Pakistan are at each other's throats, and guess what: They both have nuclear weapons. Not to mention everything Israel is going through in the Middle East. They, too, have nukes. We are divided on so many fronts between Iraq and Afghanistan that this could easily be described as a third world war, and it's much the same across the planet. Gas prices and bank collapses are driving people into poverty that were never in danger before. The cost of food is expected to rise so much that more of the US may go hungry than even during the Great Depression.

The financial systems, weather, tribal warfare of human beings and geological upheaval are already sending us into a panic. What do you suppose the tipping point will be for an event that kills millions of people? Maybe us all..?

See you in 2012, baby...

On an even more dramatic note, I'm on the South Beach Diet again for my upcoming trip to St. Lucia next month. I need to drop ten more pounds, but I'm craving carbs like a bimbo craves diamonds. I'd give my left arm for a toasted sandwich and a super-sized fries. Now, there's a REAL tragedy!

Happy New Year, folks!

Kyle~

Nothing's going to happen in 2012....the Mayan long count is resetting to 0:0:0:0:0 or something like that. The Mayans just figured that when it was time for the count to reset it would be the end of the world.

Think Y2K.

Also the major theory about 2012 was a reversal of the magnetic poles....and that is so unlikely to happen in the next four years.

I thought so, too... But then the Jewish calendar is supposed to end at 7,000 years, and we just hit that mark. The Chinese agree with the Mayans in their iChing, and they have no long count to which they refer. And an astrophysicist explained the magnetic pole reversal in a very interesting way that made me stop and think:

If the sun is impacted by an increased gravitational pull due to the exotic alignment that occurs with the center of the galaxy in 2012, it might cause enormous solar storms that we have never seen during recorded history. The Mayans believe the polar shift has happened before, and it could be historical memory of a 26,000 year-old event...scheduled to happen again.

All bets are off if some astronomers are correct and an enormous radiation wave sweeps through the entire galaxy on a scheduled pattern.

But I can watch CNN and tell the next four years are going to be much more interesting than the last.

All very fascinating stuff, but wtf do they know, they're just people. If we were to believe everything 'people' said or wrote we'd WANT the world to end.

The planet has been evolving and changing since time ... it's a natural phenomenon. Humans will also evolve to accommodate changes, as we always have .... apparently we started out as no more than pond scum ... No change there then!

Good blog though, anything that gets people on this site to wake up for a minute has got to be a good thing!

As one of the veteran bloggers on this site, I want to own that THIS is one of THE BEST "stream of consciousness" pieces I've read IN A LONG while.

Kudos....and THANX.
As an Ohioan yearning to return home (not just for snow and silver queen corn, either) I'm REALLY GLAD to know there's someone up there, keeping up the literary standard!

I don't know about half my sandwich, but, I wouldn't mind making a deal with Qtr Acre, for some of that SilverQueen Corn....I used to have that in Ct., but haven't seen it since...

Sometimes I wonder if we don't have to worry about the ending of the world because some of what is going on right now will do the job...not nice thoughts, but scary!

What I find curious about a variety of end-of-world prognostications is not so much their differences, but their similarities, in timing.

From ancient calendars (as mentioned), environmental, religious, cosmological, and so on....many target 2010ish...give or take 10 years.

Will the world end? I don't think so....but we might very well face some very significant changes resulting in "end of the world as we know it." Humanity will survive, I have no doubt, but possibly another 'dark age'. Who knows? Guess we'll have to wait 'n see!

Not quite I mean, yes, financial collapse, natural disasters, etc. But, if 2012 is when that really kicks off, that doesn't make it the end! I've read the book more than once, and I can tell you that a LOT happens after it kicks off, before the end really happens.

But, I am willing to believe that it won't be long, I'm even willing to believe that 2012 is going to be a very bad year. Just, December 21, 2012 will not be the absolute end. It also says that in the Holy Scriptures.
