Sunday, while getting ready for church, I had the tv on and for an hour and a half there was three different churches featured. All of these churches were stadium type churches. I started thinking about how many people were in those churches. Possibly tens of thousand.

Then my thoughts drifted to, how many more churches across American that are not as big. Maybe having a few thousands, like the one I attend now. Then like the church I grew up in, a few hundred.

If the United States has this many Christians, how was it possible for the government to pass a law that schools can not have prayer in schools? How can they even think about taking "In God we trust" off the money?

The court system has the 10 Commandents on display. People are sworn in on Bibles. But yet our children can not say a prayer at the beginning of the school day.

I for one, am tired of worrying about who I will offend for what I believe in. This country was formed on religious freedom and now it is being taken away one thing at a time. That "moment of silence" before school and ball games are the beginning of the down fall of our country. The very thing our forefathers stood up for is being taking away from us. The foundation of our country.

The Bible teaches against lukewarm Christians. Are you also guilty of going to church on Sunday morning to feel good about yourself? To be seen? Hope to buy your way to heaven? I wonder how many of these Christians will stand up to the government to get the prayers back in school. Remember...only one woman campaigned to have it taken out.

Bama it depends on the school and where it's located and the people of the city. In our town it's allowed and no one complains. They don't worry about religion being brought up in school and fliers are often passed out. Sometimes kids are even let out early to attend a Bible function. People are sometimes allowed to speak at the school, if parents were to begin to complain, I imagine they'd stop it, but so far no one has. I guess the majority here feels it's a good thing and the minority just lets it be. Take care Lost

I think the change started when we changed the definition of the seperation of church and state.

The seperation of church and state was to mean,,,, that the governement did not run the chruch,,,, and the church did not run the government.

Somehow, this was changed to,,,, you can't reference any relegion, if you are government.... and the inroads made by special interest groups politics,, took off,, so that we have special rules and regulations for the disabled, for race minorities, for homosexuals, for environmentalist, for low income, for high income, for pig farmers, for eythenol farmers, for unions, etc. etc. etc.,,,, the end of the US of we,,, and the start of us vs them,,,

Johnny could not read,,,, because Johnny had an excuse for his behavior, his lack of work ethic, and his just plain dumb as a post existance.

Then came Brown v Board of Education,,,, and we had to mainstream little dumb as post Johnny into our classrooms,,,, and the focus of the class went from excelling to excellence,,, to let's help Johnny pass the test. We destroyed vocational education, as now,,, all students are bound for university or tech school,,, so dumb as a post Johnny can not even learn a hands on trade in high school, and is not going to be able to get into tech school or univerisity,,,, a perpetual drain on the ecconomic system,,,,

Much of the industry that would start dumb as a post Johnny at an entry level position, and train him up so he had a chance to earn a wage and maintain his own health insurance, or a pension,,,, we have regulated and taxed out of our country,,,,, so,,,

With Johnny, we are teaching to the lowest common demoninator,,,,,sacraficing the education of the rest of the students, and the resources that could be used on the rest of the students,,,, when all Johnny is going to be able to do is collect his monthly check,,, and breed,,, or course.

Of course, the school systems says it is was lack of money,,,, so we gave them more,,,, and raised teacher pay,,,, and put in loads of administration to handle the government required paperwork to continue to receive the money,,,,

Strange, NY City, DC, Twin Cities, Detroit,,,, the highest cost per student for public education,,,, yet some of the worst results....so I don't think money is the issue,,,,

It's the same scourge that is running through our other institutions,,,,

Prayer,,, yep,,,, prayer,,,

I don't know if it is the answer to the problems facing education,,,

But it is a great time to smack Johnny in the back of the head to get his attention,,, while everyone else has their eyes closed,,,, so you have a chance to acutally teach the ones that have a chance to make a contribution to society.

Would you believe that both the United States Senate and House of Representatives opens each days work with a prayer let by either Christian minister or a rabbi. Each branch of Congress has a paid chaplain.

The business about public school children not being allowed to pray in class is so hypocritical.

YET . . . in the public school systems in the Detroit suburbs that are controlled by Moslems (there are several) classes are stopped so that their students can throw down their rugs and pray to the Moon God in Mecca. Not only that, all non-Moslem students in the Detroit Metro Area must comply with Sharia rules, when at events attended by Moslem students.

Because we as Americans have stood by and let it happen. If the goverment had tried to give the banks and car makers billions of dollars 50 years ago the people would have marched on Washington and tar and feathered the whole bunch ....Now we sit by and act as sheep being led to slaughter. ..................It use to be goverment for the people by the people. ............Now its goverment by the goverment and to bad if the people dont like it , shut up and take your entitlement .. What a shame and what a waste. I hope and pray that one day Americans wake up and take back what is ours. Freedom, and Liberty

Read the 1st Amendment..

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Note the amendment says 'congress' the law making body of the United States, and 'law'.
'Congress' cannot make a 'law' establishing a religion.

Pay particular attention to the secound half.."or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

Congress cannot 'prohbit you from exercising your religion.

The amendment was to take power AWAY from government in regard to making a 'law' establishing a religion and 'prohibiting the free exercise of religion'.

In essence, government was to butt out either way and leave it up to the People.

The reason you are seeing the 'prohibiting the free exercise thereof' is because your asking for a previledge.
It is an inalienable right..and you either fight for it or someone will try to take it away.

And most of you don't fight.

Simple as that.

I'm 53 so I grew up in the 60's when you could do.... just about anything. We didn't pray in school back then. We had Christmas pagents that were actually Christian oriented and not the generic Winter/Santa stuff you do now. We had EASTER break, not spring break. But we didn't have orgainzed prayer even back them and I really don't understand why the outcry for it now.

How many people reading this blog actually had a designated prayer time when you were a kid in a PUBLIC school???

I have read about provifing prayer time for Muslims and that DOES burn me up. I'm not anti muslim..... I just believe in equal rights under the law.

Oh, and I do agree with the Bard about teaching to the lowest common denominator. I understand the concept of not wanting to neglect anyone.... but whenever you cater to the needs of 1, you end up actually neglecting many.
