There’s a winter storm watch here. Big snow storm, that is. So, of course, Dancer wanted to go out tonight and play in it some. She says that we don’t get big snow storms like they do on her far west side of the state because, over there, they get the “lake effect” off of Lake Michigan.
So, Dancer says we’ll walk out towards the lake in the park out back and leave a bunch of food for the critters to eat. I, of course, was tasked with taking the food out near the trees; while she stayed in the sort of plowed parking area, but nevermind that part. I didn’t mind clodhopping through the snow, except she was laughing when I hit a long patch where the snow was up to my knees. Yes, we get snow on this side of the state, too. Most of that snow came today.
The snow was falling what I call moderately heavy, so I thought I might show Dancer a little light show. In my pocket, I had a rather strong laser pointer to play with. Dancer had noticed my large laser and thought we should play with that, but there is an element of danger using that in the shiny snow. Besides, there’s an airport (and, much closer a police station) nearby. So, I brought along a smaller laser, just for kicks.
We had a good show falling tonight. So, therefore, I played a little and Dancer learned that even a relatively strong laser will not go through snow. Instead, wherever the laser beam shined on a snowflake, there was a flair. That is, each and every time the laser beam hits a falling snowflake, there appears to be a sparkle.
Tonight, there was quite a bit of snow falling. Which means, my little pocket laser produced quite a few “sparkles” when pointed out to trees or whatnot. Too bad it wasn’t snowing harder, though I, but Dancer (who can see much better than I) thought it was a rather interesting phenomena. "Way cool," she said.
It was, too. Sometimes there were thousands of little red sparkles trailing a few hundred feet off, when I pointed the laser off into the dark woods next door to us.
Funny thing is that I had mostly forgotten about playing with a laser like that. Dancer says that her grandkids would really like that type of light show.
Here in Michigan, we have spring and summer rains with huge raindrops. These large raindrops, when it’s raining hard, really defuse laser light well. This means that Dancer (and her grand kids) may be in for a rather spectacular nighttime light show a few months from now -- if I bring along my larger laser.
That can become a little science-fair for both adults and kiddies. Heck, it will even be fun for me to watch since I’ve essentially forgotten all that fun and foolishness. . . .
Hey guys . . . if you’ve been single for a while, never let a gal help clean you closets (or anything else, for that matter), because they find all sorts of things you have long since forgotten about. Lasers and guns ain’t the half of it.
p.s. What the hell was lavender bubble bath doing under my bathroom sink, she asks? Hell if I know! But, Dancer commented that it was half gone. . . . Uh oh. lol
Already, I’m hearing about sledding (on her damn little cookie sheet) tomorrow -- and that I’m not allowed to bring a camera (I will). If she doesn't swipe the batteries, we may have a video to post. . . .

I agree. I'll have to try the laser, as well. My daughter lives in the U.P. As much snow as we've gotten here so far this winter, they did get considerably more........thanks to Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.......
Fun read, you guys.............

Dancer thinks the laser show was spectacular and the grandkids will love it. Of course, kids will like anything interesting like that.
Yeah . . . now she says I’m calling her a big kid. Guess I’m in trouble yet again. lol
Fact is, the more snow or rain you have, the better the little show is. So, enjoy. . . .

thank you for sharing...Being from New England myself, I guess I could say I miss the wintry weather at times. I guess my new found love for 80 degrees year round in a paradise like setting could fade with time as so many things often do. Thanks again, I enjoyed it very much, Tobey

I would love to see that effect. There's not much chance of that happening here this year, it's almost like spring already. ~*~

There's bound to be a run on lasers this week---at least in towns where MD members shop :-) What fun! Dancer---being a 'big kid' is a great goal for retirement; sure beats a rocking chair with an afghan over one's knees
