Being that today is Martin Luther King Day celebration.. I thought it would be fitting to open with a quote I enjoy of his:
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil--hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars--must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. (Strength To Love, 1963)
I am slipping back in here under the scope of radar.. not many will notice that I am even back, and you know what? I enjoy that! My freaking vacation was outstandingly beautiful. There comes a time in each of our lives when the constant tug of everyday strife wears us to the bone... it is then when we should have squirreled a teeny amount of cash away so that we can take that respite and go to where our souls and spirits hunger .. the calm, aqua blue ocean and striking colorful world that was put here for each of us to partake when we become too weary to go on....
I have been very guilty of being unable to cope this year... Gawd, I needed this time away from the 8" ++ inches of white fluffy stuff that fell and the negative 18 degrees when I was in 80 ++ degree weather and sunshine. Coming back into Philadelphia airport Saturday night at 11:55 was a shock. But, and I say this with all the warmth and smiles that are in my heart right at this moment.... I enjoyed the time away and think that I may just have found that retirement place I have only dreamt of until this last week.
What can I say? The weather was perfect, the sights were like freaking sex for the eyes... yes, it was that good and that beautiful and I remember what it feels like to love again.
My daughter and I boarded our plane (not the one we were originally scheduled to take... trust me, it is a long, long story... a tale for future blogs to come.. if I decide I wish to continue to look for something I feel does not really exist anymore... topic for another blog.. or not) last Friday afternoon and over-nighted in San Diego before catching our Carnival Elation Cruise Line out on Saturday, Jan. 10th.
The cruise people have this whole sign-in down to a science... I have NEVER been on a cruise before (unless you count the harbor cruises at sunset with a local radio station and some drinks.. I so do not!!!). All I need to tell you is that the cruise was lovely... I would have preferred more land stuff to traveling on the wide blue ocean, but the sunsets and sunrises more than made up for being unable to put my feet on solid ground. I know that there are people out there that be rolling their eyes when I say, I need this sort of eye-candy (sunsets/rises) to feed my soul for when it becomes too weary to want to carry on... but I would swear on the life of my munchkin cat.. that I NEED to have soul food every now and again in order to keep on keeping on.. (yeah, I am an old hippie chick.. get over it....)
I was blown away this last week by the beauty that still surrounds us on a daily basis.. the only problem becomes one of being able to slow down enough to see and let it be absorbed ..
I will leave off this #1 recount of my vacation here.. with a link to the first of my 557 picture links... and a clip of La Bufadora in Ensenada, Mexico.. you have to be there to really hear, smell and see this beauty.... and then there is the flea market complete with Pedros and Juans (Pedro who insisted I was Italian because he was into noses and I have an Italian one.. and Juan who could "do" me with whips and chains.. oh, no.. not gonna even go there!~!!! )
Here is the first of my albums...I hope you enjoy the splendor of the colors .. none of them have tags.. I am soooooooooo freakin tired.. I cannot truly encapsulate it in mere words:
Mostly San Diego and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Here is a clip from YouTube on El Bufardora: El Bufadora, Ensenada, Mexico
And a small one for gramps:
ose arrives at the Mexican border on his bike with 2 huge bags over his shoulders. The guard stops him and asks: "What's in the bags?"
"Senior, It's only sand." replies Jose.
"Sand??? Well, we'll just see about that - get off the bike!"
The guard takes the bags, rips them open, empties them out and finds nothing in them...except sand. Detaining Jose overnight, the sand is analysed, but only to discover it is in fact simply sand.
Jose is released, the sand is put into new bags and placed on Jose's shoulders, and he is let across the border.
Next day, same thing happens. The guard asks: "What you got there?"
"Sand," says Jose.
A thorough examination of the bags again shows there to be nothing but sand, and subsequently Jose is allowed to ride across the border.
For a whole year this continues until one day Jose doesn't show up, and the guard discovers him in a Cantina in Mexico.
"Hey, Bud," says the guard, "I know you're smuggling something. For a year it's driven me crazy. It's all I can think about... I can't get sleep, the kids are getting neglected...heck, even the dog senses I'm beginning to lose it! Between you and me, just what are you smuggling?"
Jose sips his beer, smiles and replies: "Bicycles..."

Welcome back my friend!
How wonderful to see the world through your eyes! The sunsets / rises where amazing! awesome even!
Lots of the Mexico shots look like just here. The rocks, cliffs and how the homes are perched prcariously on the hills and any little cranny they can grasp on to. Must've been fishing villages is all I can say. I've beem considering Mexico for a while now and the pull just got stronger... like home but warm... ahhh... what side were the pics taken on? The Atlantic or Pacific? Brrr... suddenly it's colder here!
Thanks for sharing... xoxo
ps... did you make the captains table?
