We all have those moments when things happen, we don't know why, and it causes embarrassment. Last week was another one of those times for me. I was going to a farm to visit a friend. It was a wonderful day of sunshine, and my friend thought if I got out awhile despite the cold weather, it would benefit my depressed mood of late.
I traveled down the country road enjoying the warm sunshine coming into the car, marveling at the snow on the trees and their beauty. Not being sure which farm was where I needed to go, I was gawking at the fields carefully. I knew this farm had pet donkeys, so I watched for the group of donkeys to know where I would find my destination.
At last I caught site of my friend by a red barn in the distance of one farm. I then gawked to catch a glimpse of the donkeys in the field. I'm an animal lover, and I was excited at this moment to soon be petting some fun-loving animals. So as I gawked for a glimpse of the donkeys, as I turned into the driveway, BANG!! I had aimed the car into the middle of the driveway, but I did not look to see my friend had only opened the left side of the steel gate that was enough room for a car to pass thru. I was looking for the donkeys!!
As I drove up the driveway to my friend, I felt really dismal. Now I figured I had SCRATCHED my car again. I got outside and checked out the damage. OH NO! It was not just a scratch. It had tore up the whole right fender! The right turn signal in front was ruined...in fact, we couldn't find it! The signal at the side was also broken. As I checked further, the whole unit was attached to the front bumper - yes, now the whole bumper has to be replaced. All of this due to my own stupidity of gazing at donkeys instead of watching where I was going.
As I moped around and tried to enjoy the visit best I could, I heard a HEE HAW coming from the barn area. Yeah, the ones whom I was gazing for were calling. Perhaps they felt bad about the situation? It's THEIR fault.
The dog noted my mood too - he kept nudging me for petting, sort of saying he was sorry this happened. I gave him a dog biscuit in exchange for his kindness.
My youngest son has now decided maybe it's time for mom to be watched, feeling I am needing to stop driving so much and wondering if it is time to pull my license. My oldest son who just returned from Kuwait has said that perhaps I need to get a stronger vehicle for my accidents that lie ahead - he will contact the military to order me a TANK.
I am also being asked what color the gate was? Did I not see it? The gate is a reddish-orange color. Now I'm asked why I cannot see bright colors? Am I going blind?
All I can say is that it was my own stupidity - one of those blonde/senior moments, and I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR THE DONKEYS!!
