I was going to blog about chicken, but monkey brains seems to be a catchier subject. What started me on monkey brains? The move Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Indiana and Willie Scott were invited to dinner with the dignitaries and they were expected to eat all sorts of delicacies that would make any American barf up at the mere thought of chilled jelly monkey brains.
The lunch truck came today. I had a 1/4 chicken leg/thigh white rice and white beans. It was as good as any cafeteria cooking.
I got to thinking... all the ethnic foods I have eaten where chicken was the main meal, the chicken was always randomly chopped.
I dated a woman from Trinidad and she took me to her favorite restaurant to eat Roti wrapped chicken meal. Standard meal for Trinidadians. Did she tell me to watch out for chopped bones? Well no... every Islander knows there are always bone fragments in the meal!
When I get roasted chicken from the Chinese Buffet.. it's chopped... bones are included.
Oh... once or twice a week I'll have grilled marinated (jerk) Jamaican chicken. Same thing... bone fragments are part of the meal.
It seems the ONLY place to have quartered chicken, broken at the joints and not chopped 'just anywhere' is in an 'authentic' American style Restaurant.
Monkey brains....
