In December I blogged about the TV commercial advertising to pay top dollar for gold. This commercial seems to be played 'round-the-clock' on all cable/satellite channels. How could they afford to advertise so often on so many channels?
Cash for Gold, makes it easy by providing pre-paid envelopes to send in your gold.
In my blog, I claimed I thought It was a scam.
This week, Yahoo tech-news said (essentially) the same thing:

Beware Cash4Gold and other gold-buying ripoffs

These guys 'tested' Cash4Gold by gathering some old jewelry and getting a regular pawn shop appraisal of $198.
They sent the gold to Cash4Gold and received a check for $60.
After, they phoned Cash4Gold and declined the offer asking for the gold back and Cash4Gold upped the offer to $178.

According to Yahoo

"Cash4Gold's PR agency has requested the removal of this post, calling it defamatory. I have amended certain language in this post to clarify the source of some of the content within."

Scam? perhaps... seller beware? definitely.

Being a guy who watches alot of tv......what i think is funny...is how the offer is so good that you have just a few minites left to take this offer...and the clock starts to run........or only up to a certain number of callers to get this special offer......the only thing is......they repeat this offer again over and over again so often.....that you cant help but think its a major scam........Im going on vacation with the money i got from the sale of my gold.........yea......right..........cookie

Good Blog! The tech article had a link to news channel 10 (?) in San Diego. They did a similar experiment and came up with interesting results. The TV ads seem to have an edge on local folks because people are impulsive creatures. "GET IT NOW"...folks who don't frequent Pawn shops sometimes think only criminals and low lifes hang out there....not so! The psychology of it all is quite interesting.

The thing that seems silly to me is...I'm supposed to send them my stuff and trust them to send me a check?

and no one moved to close them down
same old story
when are they going to move?
looks like , a lot of crimes can be done, under the umbrella of capitalism
which should not be the case.
credit cards, insurance and lots of other financial institutions should be scrutinized

Offering to buy gold at half it's market isn't illegal... at least not that I know of.
