As culled from the net...

"...Online personal dating services Match.com and Yahoo Personals have both been sued, in separate and unrelated actions, over claims of fraud and “date bait”. The Match.com law suit and the Yahoo Personals law suit both stem from claims that the online personal dating services bolstered their inventory of available singles with fake personals listings.

The Match.com lawsuit also contends that Match.com went so far as using employees as “date bait” - sending Match.com employees out on dates, and had them write romantic email to customers in the hopes of retaining them as paying customers.

Scott Leviant, the Los Angeles attorney who filed the lawsuit against Match.com explained that “This is a grossly fraudulent practice that Match.com is engaged in,” adding that Match.com “promotes the policies of integrity to protect members, and yet they themselves, we allege, are misleading their entire customer base.”

The Match.com lawsuit was filed on behalf of Matthew Evans, who claims that he went out on a date with a woman who later confessed to him that she was actually a Match.com employee. Evans contends that Match.com set up the date to retain Evans as a customer, and so that he would tell others about the great woman he met through Match.com.

Match.com declined to discuss the pending lawsuit, other than to protest that it “absolutely does not” employ people to purposely mislead customers or to post fake personals.

Yahoo declined to comment at all regarding the Yahoo Personals lawsuit.

Both the Match.com law suit, and the Yahoo Personals law law suit are seeking class action status..."

I will confess that in the past, both Match.com and Yahoo Personals have relieved me of some of my money. Fortunately, I wasn't a victim of any "fakes".

I have found that both were full of those who talked big about "finding someone", but were never willing to meet when it came time.

I've read several stories along the same lines involvng other sites. Apparently, it is a common practice.

I have had MANY men contact me here saying the exact same things. Something about how beautiful I am, that their wife just died and he has a son. He is muscular and tall. 5' 5" and 170#. They are all looking to be my soul mate. Could this be a scam?

Other profiles here seem to make comments that are extremely comparable to another profile. These profiles are not usually looking for dates. Some don't even comment. They just look, waiting to strike.

Then there are the rest who are actually here for some fun, laughs and friendship.

Hell, I'm just a crazy old mother f***er that wants to get laid and see where it goes from there. For some reason those sites wont let me say that. And yes they do promise you the world, take your money and give nothing in return. So what is so unusual about that? Wait! Is that the turnip truck? Tell him to wait, I want to get back on! At least on this site, it wont cost you a dime and people post what they really want out of a relationship.

I thought this happened about 5 yrs ago?

I was on Match and I did meet several nice men on there and dated one for almost a yr. I wouldn't mind using it again but the cost is out of my budget for my meager income now. Seems like I remember they say if you don't find someone they give you 6 months free? Do they still do that?

There is one site I joined just to look around and they send you an email that someone is interested in you when all they do is look at your profile. I really need to delete that profile. Its nothing but junk mail.

just to clarify, matchdoctor doesn't charge for membership unless someone wants the enhancements offered by our gold membership. we also do not 'salt' our site with fake profiles. we have no need and it's defiately against our principles. as a matter of fact we work very hard to catch and delete the numerous scammers, spammers, and fakes who show up in droves and attempt to contact our members for any number of schemes.

we're targeted, as are hundreds of other sites, because we are free and we allow international members. any fakes that show up have joined on their own and have nothing to do with us or our company. we're repeatedly asking our members to report them immediately so that we can ban them. we don't want our members scammed or taken for an emotional or financial ride.

even sharing a personal email or IM ID is a score to these scammers. they can sell the valid ID to spam emailers in bulk. that's another reason we encourage people to communicate through our secure email system here until there is a measure of trust built up.

I 2nd what the mod has said I feel that Md does the best they can to keep the scamers off and deletes them as soon as they find them. Thank you Md and mods for keeping the scamers out so we can enjoy the play yard drama and all it is all real with real people

I have been on other date sites and one was very bad for doing things like this .. what they did was pick out a match for you and set you up by sending email to each saying that they had some kind of communication from the other (a wink or message) and encouraging you to respond .. and a few people responded to find out that had never been contacted... not good.

I agree with the Mods, I just don't believe that Matchdoctor has posted fake profiles. I've talked with alot of people on MD and they are all real to me, except for the scammers of course.
