I am finished with my Job in Ft Smith Arkansas so if I need to go to Lowes or Home Depot I will visit the stores in Rogers, AR about 23 miles away. I made my appearance in those stores today but was not met in the aisles with the anticipated rows of employees applauding my return and a cheering crowd acclaiming me to be a "Jolly Good Fellow" with song and dance. Instead I wandered aimlessly about, wondering how I would cope with orderly shelves and respectful employees. I was asked in each store at least a half dozen times if I needed help. This is so opposite to the treatment received in the Ft Smith stores. I was so unaccustomed to this kind of fine treatment I started to ask for directions to things I did not even need, just to satisfy the apparent desire the folks had to help people. At one point when asked if I could be helped, I replied, " I suppose the z'confused look "on my face makes you think so, but actually it came as a standard issue on my model"

The man in the hardware dept knew what tec screws were. It took a minute for him to remember but I issued the test to compare to the fact that five store managers in Ft Smith had no idea what they were (and seemed to be irritated that I needed any).

Yes, I was impressed and thankful to be home. I stocked up on garden seeds and flower bulbs and some things I did not even need just because I was happy for experienced, helpful service. Then I got prices for things I needed in the future. I was so inspired by helpul service I planned my next three building projects right on the spot!

I absolutely LOVE the folks at my local Lowes. They are considerate and don't hound me when I walk in the door. My favorite dept is the garden center. I can spend hours there and the folks that work there sure know their stuff !

Daisy315: Our local Lowes is just the opposite. I think their garden center may be their weakest link. But just like you enjoy your local store because they are so knowledgable, I like my local store for the opposite reason. There is a constant stream of "almost dead" flowers and plants that get sold on racks outside for 5 and 10 cents each. I have bought them by the hundreds. Last fall I bought almost 300 Caladiums which I gave to neighbors and friends which cost me just pennies apiece.
