“There is no aphrodisiac like innocence.” -- Jean Baudrillard We all start out pure, natural and free of sin. Then, life foucks us up. It starts with small pellets dropping on us like sleet on a windshield. We cry when we first enter the world outside of the womb, because all of the fckng shite of the world begins at that moment.
We are shelled with bright friggen lights that hurts our eyes that were once shielded in our mother's womb. The sounds attack our newly formed eardrums and bring us crashes and buzzes that we've never heard before.
Sounds really bad, eh? But that is not the worse of it yet. From day one that we make our grand entrance on this planet of dog eat dog, of hurry up and let's move and shake the earth, of "because I said to"; we are not allowed to retain that innocence, that purity. Everything changes us... everything molds us if we don't do something to try to retain what sanity and naturalness we were given prior to the outside factors.
Small pellets at first .. not allowing us to hold onto our quiet, safe harbor of the womb, which grow exponentially by the day, the hour, the second. We put up our own private little wars against time, but in the end, we succumb to many of those pellets, they were sent to change us and they have succeeded. The fckrs win.. they have beat us down until our shield of innocence is but a memory.
Innocence is a gift. By the very definition of the word, it means "freedom from guilt or sin through being unacquainted with evil.” The youth of our age is the only time we have little or no worries and/or guilt. We are now headed down the path of paying bills, going to work, supporting a family. Gone is the simplicity of life, we begin to worry things that prior to this never really meant anything to us. With every year we gain another burden. We start to worry about popularity, money, and the future.
Some people, however, feel that innocence is the worst time of anyone’s life. This brings up the question whether or not innocence is important. Although it seems as if decisions and events made during a person’s childhood are totally irrelevant towards the rest of his/her life, these factors make a large impact on the type of adult a person becomes. For example, it is commonly known that most children who had abusive parents have a bigger chance to grow up to be just the same. The same holds true that if a child had very loving and caring parents, chances are much better that the child will grow to be very loving towards his/her children. A child doesn’t know any better during the stage of innocence and is unable to reasonably distinguish the differences between right and wrong. The child who abuses his kids as an adult may very well have been brought up that way himself. In his own mind, he feels this is the right way to discipline his children. This shows that innocence does play an important part in everyone’s life.
What would the world be like if innocence were never lost? One way it would benefit humanity is the lack of hatred among the world. During youth, there may be an occasional argument, maybe even a little physical fight, but nothing like firing a handgun at a fellow human being, stabbing someone, etc. Children are blind towards the race and ethnicity of others. A kid will hang out with another kid no matter what, it is the lack of innocence and the ignorance we learn from adults that mold us into thinking the other way. Think of all the things that the human race can achieve if we all put our minds together.
What would happen .. can you think of all the beneficial things that might come if we actually tried to shield ourselves of these negative things that bombard our innocence and break it down. Perhaps, though, innocence really is meant to be lost, but I think it just may well be the happiest time of our lives and that we should enjoy it for all that it was and try to remember some small snippets of it.
Be still and let the center of your being be heard by all your senses.. take the time to remember what innocence felt like, if only for a few moments a day. It may mean the difference between really living your life, or just going through the motions of existing.
End of the Innocence
