I just figure it indicates to me where their interests lie. I'm not too fond of seeing a main photo of a man holding a floppy fish. I have nothing against fish or fishing, (as a matter of fact, I have found it enjoyable in the past), but, I much prefer to see, for my first glance, a man who has enough pride in himself to be wearing something neat and wants to portray himself so that he is thought of as attractive. I don't need to see his boats, cars, motorcycles, etc.
If he wants to add the "fish" or the "truck" picture as an additional one, I'm fine with it. As a matter of fact, I've driven both a motorcoach and a truck, but never thought of posting a picture with it. (They are not current and, heavens, I wouldn't DREAM of posting a picture that is not current.)
I appreciate your Blog. You are NOT alone.
Fondly,
KK

they want to show us how manly they are It could be somewhat they want to prove how manly they are, just as women like to prove how feminine they are by showing off what they feel are their assets.
As kitten stated she prefers pics of men who show pride in themselves, it is the same with some of us men . . . I prefer a woman who exudes her intelligence in her pics, not physical features.

or is it they want to show us how manly they are Real men drive pickups, drink out of the bottle and pee off the back porch.
Only girly boys drive those little foreign sports cars and ask for a glass in a saloon. *grunt*

The big trucks? The big fish?
They're just compensating. No confusion necessary!

I like the pictures where women take next to a tree. Some lean against the tree as if to say, look how smooth my skin is compared to this tree bark? Or to say, This four foot oak tree can almost hide my wide behind? So I guess a picture of a guy holding a fish isn't to bad?

Consider the gifts exchanged between partners...
Imagine that it's Christmas or Valentine's Day, and think of the hundreds of women who seethe and hiss at being given practical, unromantic items such as tire gauges, frying pans, microwaves...you get the picture.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the sofa, guys are staring at fluffy stuffed animals, handcrafted scrapbooks of relationship mementos, silk boxers, etc.
Does this just happen to couples who don't know each other well? Just dating each other for the 'benefits'? Married, but not really committed to the relationship?
No.
These are simply people who are doing nothing more than being human. The natural tendency (for many of us) is to offer as a gift the sort of thing we would like to receive...we shop for the other person, but all too often, we buy for ourselves.
Certainly, some women ask for and appreciate a fine kitchen appliance, just as some men like the occasional sweet nothing wrapped in lovely paper.
Back to the world of online dating. Sites that offer profile-writing advice often suggest viewing your own profile, and deciding whether you come across as dateable.
That's a fine suggestion, as long as you're grading the dateability from the perspective of the population you're interested in dating...but I suspect that all too often, we simply view it with our own barometer. Not unlike how we view the gifts we buy for others...

Are you making fun of my fish picture? I swear the night before (and admittedly we were drinking a bit), she looked like a beautiful mermaid.
Seriously, photos are an extension of the profile, and show various facets of a person. Mine say I am very active outdoors, like to camp and canoe, and believe in doing things myself. I like animals, and I was working as a fisheries biologist
I am very proud of the two axle boat trailer. I designed it, and welded it up from scratch to carry a three ton boat. I know the rusted out tail end of that 78 chevy van will really bring in the honeys, but it is a statement of the way I live.
The fish is a fairly rare sturgeon, one of about 120 we caught, tagged, and released. Most people will never see a real one in a lifetime.
So my pics say I am an outdoors man, a do it myselfer, and a biologist, all main points of my life. They also say I am a bit rough and tumble, and not too much concerned with appearances, They also say that if it is real important to you to stay clean and dry, click to the next profile.
Would you really think better of a photos of a guy putting mouse'(you know moos) on his hair, or having his nails done?
I learned long ago not to go for lots of response, but to appeal to exactly the kind of person I want to relate to. Who you sift out is as important as who you draw in. I explained that long ago in my sitting or standing blog. Mine draw women who want a very active, masculine man, and are very active, truly femine women.
Historically, mine has attracted exactly the kind of woman I want.
Just remember , you are from Venus, we are from Mars.

Whatever you show in your pic portrays your personality, your likes and what you want to attract.
A truck, bike, fish shows that you want to share some outdoor fun.
I do not respond to men who have no shirts on because to me it shows that they are looking for self pleasure and feel that they are all that. Some women go for it and that is their choice.
I do have large breasts but am not looking for a man who notices my chest first. My breasts have little to do with defining who I am. Large or small they are only fat deposits. There is a reason that thin women have naturally smaller breasts.
The amount of hits on my profile matters none. I want quality.
