Yes, I did. I promised I would try to think of things in terms of blog material. I decided to do so in order that I might begin to contribute more to blogland. Granted, not everyone will be interested in what I have to say, but at least I'm trying to step up to the plate.
I have to share a few things that have happened since I last posted here, which was Tuesday evening this past week. As it was late in the evening, I had begun to wind down & was working towards shutting down & going to bed, but I got caught up in looking at some photographs someone had shared thru Photobucket.
I noticed my computer making lots of noises while I was looking at the pictures. It sounded like it was running a scan, but I didn't see the icon in the task bar indicating it. I kept looking at the pictures. Soon enough, some crap pop-up comes on my screen informing me a scan has been run on my computer & I have various virus threats that need attending to. I'm given the option to say "no thanks" or "yes."
As I am keenly aware that this is not any safety software I've installed on my machine, I attempt to click off of it & get rid of it. I click the option "no thanks" and try to clear it from my task bar, but it just keeps popping back up. I realize my computer has been attacked & is under siege!
I worked on taking care of this problem until almost 3:00 in the morning when I decided I had to go to bed. Starting fresh the next day, I still could not manage to accomplish anything with my computer. I tried to run McAfee scans to no avail. I tried to do a system restore, with no luck. I was frustrated. Even more, I was ticked off. The money I've spent on safety features has been for naught.
Ended up, I had to take my machine in to a professional for it to be worked on & fixed. As I don't know any computer geeks personally, I inquired at the business of a family member as to who they used nowadays. After calling that company & finding out they only handle business accounts anymore, I asked them for a recommendation. I'd used the tech services at Circuit City before, but needless to say, that wasn't a option this time. The guy I talked to promptly suggested I NOT use the Geek Squad as they seem notorious for taking forever to make repairs. He suggested I contact Office Depot & so I did.
As it turned out, Office Depot does not employ any technicians locally. What they do is plug your machine into their network & their geeks out in California work on your machine remotely. As they had no other machines in ahead of mine, they got to work on it right away. I was told that more than likely they'd be done & I could pick it up on Thursday. It turned out, however, that they had a difficult time getting it to run on their network, though, thanks to the bug that had gotten a hold of my machine. Fortunately, they did get it all cleaned up & I picked it up on Friday.
Office Depot left a couple of documents on my computer which gave a run-down of the problems I had & a synopsis of what they did to repair it.
The only problem I have now is that they did not give me the name or whatever of the virus that it got. So, I sort of feel like a sitting duck. I don't know if I should feel this way or not. My McAfee is all up & running...virus protection, firewall, spyware detector.......I don't know what else I can do. I guess next time I hear my hard drive churning for what seems like no good reason, the best thing I can do is a ctrl+alt+delete & see what comes up...or just simply shut it down.
This is not the only bloggable event (hey, did I just coin a new word there?) I had go on this past week. There was also a Friday the 13th, as you may recall. I'll save the events of that day for another post, though. Nothing like flooding the blog pages!

I'm glad you're back into the swing of things, missliss. I'm really happy they were able to fix the problem!
Do you think that's where the problem originated? From Photobucket? I've never been there, but I never will if that's where the problem started.
Ohhhhhhh.........Friday the 13th? Hope it wasn't all bad!
Good write, missliss! Keep the blogs coming!

Did you squeeze the repair guys for more information about what to do "in case..."?
They bill is probably on the way, so what the heck... give them a little call for "supplementary information".
And if you can't do that.... I would just get the computer off the internet instantly when you hear or see something suspicious. You can log back on anytime, but you can't repair your computer when something happens...
Good luck, and... nice blog...

That happens to us all.
I have the surge protector where it is easy to get to, and if I suspect evil activity, I pull the phone plug.
Sometimes I hold the off/on button until the lights go out. Sure, it will go through scandisk, and tell me I made an improper shutdown, but better that than an infection.
I like your idea of writing what happens in an ordinary day. It may be usual to you, but it is different from my own way, and of interest for that reason.. It also give substance to my idea of who you are. Sometimes one detail can say more than a thousand words.
Good luck, and keep it going, Ttom

I know someone who downloaded a 'free' screen saver and pop-up advertisements appeared on the screen... even when the browser was closed. Very annoying. there was always network activity when the computer was supposed to be idle. I had him uninstall the screensaver, install a firewall (zone alarm) and run ad-aware to clean up his computer and the problem went away. He was lucky.
Maybe you should make a vow to stay away from Photo-Bucket !

I had the same thing happen to me, just had my computer fixed in December, the guy had to go through every single thing on it, grrrrrr. The minute you click on anything that says No thanx, anything like that, that's how they get you, it puts a virus in your computer, clever huh? But....most frustrating, grrrrrr.
