I'm typically not a very superstitious person, but I'm here to tell ya, this past Friday, the 13th really had me going.
As I'm always trying to get Mom up & outta the house, she'd let me know on Thursday that she'd go out on errands with me on Friday. It had been a couple of weeks since I'd last had her out, so I was happy to hear this. The only thing she was really interested in doing was buying the software for me to do her taxes this year. Yeah, seems the new accountant who took over her business from the previous CPA really stuck it to her last year...so she's trying the "do it yourself" route aka Missliss. I did manage to get her to say another couple of places she wanted to go, though, and off we went.
First stop...post office. Next stop, Big Lots. So far, so good.Next stop, Office Depot. If you read my previous blog, you know that this is where I was having my viral computer worked on. We went in & she perused the tax software available & made a choice. I went on to find out they had completed the work on my computer & it was ready to go. As I had to stop & pay for the software, I sat my computer down on a counter where the register was closed, placing the power cord next to it. I completed the transaction & instructed Mom to stay there with my computer, that I'd go get the car & drive up to the door, as we were having a rainy day. I told her once I drove up, she could come get in the car & I would come back inside to get my computer. As I pulled up to the entrance I was happy to see Mom coming out along with the nice lady who had checked me out & the lady was bringing my computer to the car for me! I joyfully jumped out & opened the back door for her to sit the computer inside the car & drove off.
Next on the agenda was lunch, which was quite enjoyable. After that, we decided to drop by & visit my Grandmother for a few minutes. Upon leaving there, we drove on to the grocery store nearest our home. We shopped & as it ended up, we only needed a few items, so as Mom had already gone back to the car while I checked out, I took the few bags of groceries in my hands & went to the car. Our drive home took maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Upon arrival, it dawned on me....I LEFT MY UMBRELLA in the shopping cart! Darn, I was irritated. I'd been in & out of the rain all day & now I didn't have my umbrella...and it was a NEW one on top of everything else! I got the groceries in, called the store & they found my umbrella still in the cart. They said they'd hold it for me to come back & pick up. Mean time, I brought my computer in the house also, sat it on the kitchen table & decided I'd get it hooked up as soon as I got back from the grocery store....again.
When I brought the computer to my bedroom I sat it down on the bed while I pulled the furniture out. That was when the thought dawned on me....where is my power cord? The lady at Office Depot did not pick it up when she brought my computer out to load it in the car. OH BROTHER! I call Office Depot & talk to the assistant manager, who thankfully, was very apologetic. He said he would look for my cord, but not to worry, if he didn't find it, he'd get me another.
I met a couple of friends at the neighborhood country grill that we frequent on occasion for dinner. Next, I was on my way back to town to pick up my power cord from Office Depot. While there, I also went to Wal-Mart to pick up a few grocery items we failed to get earlier in the day.
Finally, at home again, I got my computer hooked up & working again. It took me quite a while, as I was a bit hesitant about getting back on line....but I did & all was well & it was very late before I shut everything down & went to bed for the nite.
I was planning on getting up Saturday morning & putting on a big pot of spaghetti sauce. I'd gotten all the extra ingredients I needed and had gotten stuff to make a nice salad, also. I was looking forward to the day at home, out of the rain & cold surfing the net, smelling my sauce cooking & enjoying a nice meal. At 3 a.m. I sat bolt up right in bed. I'd forgotten to buy the ground beef for the spaghetti sauce!
All in all, it was not such a bad day...but basically, what could go wrong, went wrong. Needless to say, my spaghetti sauce did not get made on Saturday. I just was not up to getting dressed & out in that rain again. I did go buy the ground beef today. Tomorrow, it will still be chilly & rainy outside & I will enjoy the day at my leisure, again, but my sauce will be simmering on the stove for a nice cozy comfort meal later in the day.

Wonderful blog, missliss! I have to admit, Friday the 13th wasn't the best day for you, but it could have been much worse! Of course, that applies to ANY day! The day you had just happened to fall on Friday the 13th. Actually, when you stop to think about it, this was all Office Depot's fault. They were supposed to have your computer done on Thursday. Had that been the case, all this would have happened at that time......on Thursday!
As I mentioned to you earlier........this is true for some of us. If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all.
I am glad that your mom decided to get out some with you. Mmmmmmmm..........spaghetti and meatballs on a rainy, chilly day. Rates right up there with chili.......
