It was simply time to write a blog post, thought I. But where to begin? One would think it would be easier to come to the post after a substantial absence, but that's not been my experience. In fact, I find the return rather daunting if only because I'm out of the habit. Is it my intention to share the human experience or rather to escape from it? If I'm to share, I'll need to write as a person and if I'm to escape, I'll need to write as the persona I've created for such occasions. These are the questions one ponders aloud to a blank screen. I decided yesterday that pondering had nothing to with blogging and that I should just get on with it, but I'm not so sure today.
I sat down to the computer yesterday to explore a little something I like that was written by George Borrow:
There's night and day, brother, both sweet things; sun, moon, and stars, brother, all sweet things: there's likewise a wind on the heath. Life is very sweet, brother; who would wish to die?
I posted the quote on top of the blank page, as I'm fond of doing and began thinking. I wanted to use Borrow's work as a template for a post about blogging. I began that page much the same as this one but tried to tie up "person" and "persona" with "night and day". I then tried the same trick with where to post (sun, moon and stars) and so on. But then my thinking got better. I decided throw in an analogy of the "Code Blues" I hear so often at work. I then realized I could name the post: "Something Borrowed from Borrow, Something Blue". And I would end that post with: "Blogging is very sweet, brother . . ."
Clever, thought I, but an hour later I had a page and a half of something that even I didn't get. The more I chewed, the bigger it got. So I saved it in the hope that I would be able to fix it today. But it simply was not to be. So I decided today that I would write something - anything to get back in blogging shape. Of course, I faced the same questions as yesterday and my progress was slow. It occurred to me, however, that writing about a writing failure is still writing.
Blogging is very sweet, brother . . .

I've been catching up on your blogs of late. Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard and even Kristofferson. You're either well read or you have one of those "famous quotes" sites bookmarked....lol Love that you threw in some Kris. And yes, writing about not writing well, is still writing.

I'm looking at this blank comment space and wondering what to post as a comment. I couldn't think of anything much to write, but I did know that I wanted whatever I wrote to end with 'very enjoyable read'. And so I shall end it with just that.
Very enjoyable read.
