When I first joined MD back in 2005, I had no idea what the future would hold for me, and to be honest I didn’t hold too many expectations, as I always think that if ones does, one is open to disappointment.

Choosing a name was difficult as each one came back already taken. Or I could have a bunch of numbers after it, and I didn’t like that idea too much.
Glancing down at my beloved German shepherd Charliegirl, I typed it in, …taken. Sigh. So I changed the I to a u and bingo! The capitals at the beginning was actually a mistake, I realised I had the caps lock on, turned it off half way through I looked at the name and thought.. yeah why not!

Of course I had the usual scammers like most do, which the mods were fast to delete. (thanks mods)
I also had some nice mails, from seemingly genuine guys, I even had some nice poetry sent to me too.

After a few mails back and forth from a few over the first couple of months, and whilst I was enjoying the banter and conversations, there was something missing that I just couldn’t put my finger on.
Nice guys, smart, decent, everything I suppose a woman would want, but I didn’t feel the urgency to run to the comp and see if they’d mailed back. I was confused at my very way of thinking, what was it that I was searching for that I hadn’t found yet? I asked myself.

Then I discovered the chat room, and in 2005, a group of members had joined the 40’s room, noticing this I clicked to enter.
Everyone welcomed me there, and I felt at ease straight away.
Being English, and apart from the usual American movies on the telly, I had little knowledge of Americanisms.
Also they too would ask me what a word meant when I used a typically British word like ‘telly’ for instance.

Gregg who’d had a previous relationship with a Britt, stepped in to translate, it was fun, and I soon got to understand more of the American slang as they did British.

Gregg and I took it to private mails, and from there to messenger. We spoke to each other as friends, two people who’d met in a chat room having fun off site.

It was then I found myself after a few months, rushing to the comp to see if he’d mailed me or left an offline message on messenger.
What was it about him that was so different I puzzled, no words of romance, no poetry, just friends chatting, but I couldn’t wait to hear from him again, and this went on for 18 months!.

In 2007, we met in California where he lived at the time.
Snap! Like two pieces of a puzzle, we just seemed right.

I had moved to Portugal by then, and in July of that same year, Gregg flew out to holiday with me and meet my family, a stop in England first to meet my mum, a few days sight seeing then off to Portugal to meet my dad.
Everyone liked him and got on together so well.

We married in July of last year, a happy ending.

Looking back at when I started on MD, and my musings of why Gregg was the one who attracted me so much, or why he was attracted to me, I have come to the conclusion that it’s not so much what your profile says, although this does of course help, or even the picture you post, neither is it romantic poems, I truly believe that we made contact with each others souls… a connection, that no-one else could make. soul mates? I don’t know,


But something good happens when at first you meet someone who begins
