Dear Mr. President, Patriotic retirement: There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force so pay them $1 million a piece severance with three stipulations:
1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They buy NEW American cars.. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.
Now that's a lot less money than two TRILLION frigging dollars

This is right on target I think. I do however wonder if this letter was actually sent to the president. I hope some "right" person sees it, and takes heed, and soon!!!!!

Yes I was hoping someone would find out where the next terrorist money grab is coming from. I would have thought this was a job for homeland security.

Don't forget to make this $1 million tax free ... wait, that will put the IRS out of business. Oh well ... trimming down the govenment is a good thing.

Some one show me where my math is wrong. One million = 1,000,000. Forty million = 40,000,000. 1,000,000 X 40,000,000 = 40,000,000,000,000. That is 40 trillion.
It's a nice story, but 40 trillion is more than 2 trillion.

Thanks Lurker...I think I've gotten this email three times...and each time, just as in the blog...people think it's a great idea. Course...before sharing it, for some reason...no one does the math?
But something like this...the first thing I reach for is a calculator...just to check my old mathematics lesson of counting and adding zeros/
Why do we cling so hard to believing there is some simple way to solve complex problems? Where does this energy arise in us to simply look at such things and send them on??
We're such a species without destination....

I too have gotten this a million times in my email.
One problem would be, 40 million American cars. We would end up with cars on back order for years.
In the Field that i'm in, people over 50 don't do anyways, so there would be no jobs in this specific field. So all of us young people who have degrees strictly for this career would not benefit.
It's nice to think that one "simple" handout like this would work, but in teh long run we would end up back in the dumps. If it were that easy......................
