Being a Briit ex pat living here in the States I was eager to watch the meeting with Obama and the Queen.

I was saddened to see so many protesters outside the palace and outside the Scottish bank, what a fiasco! the police were trying thier hardest to control the mobs as Britt Police do, but it was such a dreadful scene.

And then, I watched the news, a report showed Obama shaking hands with the Queen with both hands, and Mitchele walked in front of the Prince to get in to position for the photo shoot.

The reporter said that this isnt 'done' when it comes to British royalty, .. well yes thats true, but I dont blame Obama or Mitchelle at all, I blame thier advisors, someone SHOULD have told the President how to greet the Queen and how to conduct ones self in thier presence. After all he's new at this, he wasnt to know.

Whether anyone likes Royalty or not, or even thinks that the correct etiquette isnt important, the fact remains that there is a right and wrong way to behave in the Royal presence of her Majesty the Queen.

I hope that his advisors get a toungue lashing and that they do thier job next time and show Obama the ropes in this part of his presidency.

He looked great with the Queen and Prince Phillip, and Mitchelle looked stunning.

Like I said, he's new at this, he wasnt to know.

I hope the riots calm down and he can continue to enjoy thier stay in England.

TRADITION, this and respect are a few of the things we are missing in this day and age....

I wish more and more of the traditional traditions of both Royality and Country were practiced...

I do not think the Queen will really take much notice of small issues like this. She has met many people from many nations who have very different traditions. Now if it were one of her own people who should know better then that would be a different matter. I think it is far more important that Obama and his wife are made to feel welcome and at ease here in the UK. Like you I hope they enjoy their stay and we get to see a lot more of them both.

I think Obama might have just forgotten in the excitement because it was on the news here about how to slightly touch the Queen's hand and proper introductions for nearly a week before he left. If it was on the news, I don't know how his advisers could have missed it. Most people here in America who watch the news and tv know how to shake the hand of Royalty and I see no problem with doing so, it's a showing of respect, so I'm certain he did to, especially a man of his standing. Take care Lost

Didn't one of the Spice Girls bow instead of curtsey to the Queen? And Why do I know something like that anyways?

I know that's so wrong, but if I nad been there, I probably would have laughed.

He seriously needs to reconsider his advisors, if they can't get that right!

I wonder if the Queen is over it yet, or if she's a little 'shaken?'

Cherry this is the story here .. its all good

When Michelle Obama put her arm round the Queen at Buckingham Palace, some of the more excitable elements of the media - particularly the Americans - suggested she may have been guilty of a breach of protocol.

They missed the real story, however. What was far more interesting was that the Queen put her arm round the First Lady.

It is less than 20 years ago that the Australian Prime Minister was branded “the Lizard of Oz” for committing the supposedly heinous crime of putting his hand on the Queen’s back during an official tour of Australia.

Now the Queen is not just putting up with physical gestures of affection from a woman she has only just met, but is reciprocating with one of her own.

The footage does not make it clear who made the first move. But given the Queen’s track record - she is not a woman known for doing warm, at least not in public - the fact that Mrs Obama is American, and that the President spent most of the first part of the day putting his arm round Gordon Brown, it can safely be assumed that it was the First Lady who took the initiative.

A breach of protocol? Hardly. Buckingham Palace was very relaxed today about the incident, and attitudes there have changed significantly since the days of Mr Keating and his lese-majesty. And no, they don’t issue instructions to people about not touching the Queen.

What Obama's wife actually did was commit a battery ... No one puts a finger on the queen let alone a hand..No class..

Actually, Mitchelle did put her arm around the Queen first, the Queen recipicated briefly before moving away.
The Queen was not offended however.

Check out CNN on youtube to see what happened.

Glad I am not royalty. It must suck to be royalty if it is not done to touch or be touched or have a generous hand shake. We are mostly friendly and generous here in Tx. Love to hug and shake hands like REAL people. Must be a drag to fear touching people. UGH!

Perhaps that is an old fear of disease or assassination from centuries past. Loss of the royalty would be terrible then when they appeared to be the most responsible people to 'run' the country. I sure would not like being born to rule.
