The best I can figure, truth is a statement that accurately describes reality, and lies misstate reality. Figuring out what reality is seems to be the hard part.
One little signal that you may have a slippery grip on what is and is not, is when no one else seems to agree with you. It doesn't always mean you are wrong, but it is a good indication that you ought to check your facts.
Each person has a reality based on his perceptions, that is real for him. Children believe in Santa, most adults do not, but both see their conflicting beliefs as reality.
Dislike of reality in general is neurosis, and denying reality in general is psychosis. Thinking that the world is ganging up on you in general is paranoia. I'm not sure what thinking something is true just because you say it is called, but that is a bit twisted. The above are not good mental health.
What can we do? Consider the source. People don't change much. Here on MD we can read profiles, search for character in the faces on photos, and read long blog histories to see the true nature of people. Conversely, bloggers who use throw away empty profiles are putting themselves in the company of past frauds. The good guys will pretty much go on being good guys, and the bad guys will continue in their wickedness, often covering their tracks as best they may.
Truth may vary with individuals, but there is only one reality, the world as it is, and pretty much continues to be.
Thanks for reading my thoughts, and as always all comments are welcomed.

Good Morning, OP:
You did an excellent job of explaining...I think you're right on. If I were to add anything, I might say that ...here...on the singles sites, perhaps some people should consider rendering the truth in a way in which it is less hurtful, without resorting to insults, lies and games.
Yes, often the truth hurts, but, for myself, I'd prefer to know it, and to deal with it, rather than be led down the garden path by a player.
Just my thoughts.
