The few I have attended improved with time. At the early ones, most of the big money people sat with the other big money people, and the rest of us sorted ourselves out by our interests.
Somewhere around 15 or 20 years, the economic thing broke down. Now, the good timers congregate together, and the dullards are on the sidelines. There are some very displeased big buck guys who are no longer in the spotlight. Conversely some lively characters, who spent their lives pursuing interests other than ammasing money, get more attention with their interesting stories, and acute sense of humor. There is a brotherhood among those who achieved their goals that transcends economic status. Success with family, business, spirituality, sports, or any chosen pursuit is admired as success.
Do you think that has anything to do with us all getting older, and having seen more of life ?

This reminds me of why I attended only one class reunion and never bothered with another one. There was a particularly obnoxious jerk who made the rounds bragging about his luxury cars and European vacations. I threatened to break every bone in his face if he ever flashed his expensive watch at me again. The expression on his face was priceless and his retreat more so.

I think it has EVERYTHING to do with it, OP.
And, as far as reunions go, maybe it's just a woman's curiosity, but I got the greatest delight in attending EVERY one of our reunions...we've got our 55th coming up. I've watched all of us grow and blossom, surprisingly enough, found some real surprises along the way.
Success is not measured by material things....sometimes not even higher education. I was quite popular in school...because I was basically a nice person. However, because of my world travels, there are dozens who hold on to my every word about where I've been...Can you imagine what it's gonna be like when I get to tell them about the Galapagos Islands, when I hit the reunion in August.

Last summer, I attended my 50th class reunion, and had a wonderful time! Everyone was going from one group to another saying, "Hi! I'm me. Who are you?" Only once did I enounter one who looked down his nose, and prounounced as from on high "Well...I'm John Jones!" as if anyone with any intelligence would know that. I was happy to wish him well, and move on to more friendly people....and there were plenty there. This reunion was much different than the first one our class had. Age and maturity make a huge difference.

I wish I could see the day of having a class reunion like that. I made my 10th....did not enjoy it at all. I was goaded into going by some other classmates. I skipped the 20th and I skipped the 30th as well. And from what I've heard, I'm glad I did. Not sure if I'll be interested when my 40th or 50th rolls around....we'll see, but I'm not counting on it.

EPIBLOG
Looking at the commenters, this blog made the most sense to people of an age to have seen the change themselves. It looks like good sense can advance with age, and does. It alsso appears that interest in class reunions is going the way opf other organised, formal social events among the younger people.
Thank you all for your comments. ttomtarr
