Blogs that require approval

I have mixed feelings on setting my blog up for "approval" only. Not only is it time consuming to go through & approve or disapprove comments....it's all a form of censorship. Sure, I may have to contend with a possible malicious or vindictive comments on my blog but if it's an abusive comment & not just their opinion...I can always delete it. Maybe I choose to have all comments from other bloggers automatically approved because I'm a serious writer and if I can't learn to live with my critics here.....than what am I going to do when my book is published and a reviewer rips it to shreds? It's easy for us to allow people that agree with us to post their comment. What's hard is hearing someone else's point of view and especially if it disagrees with everything you just wrote.

Because I value my readers here, I keep all comments on my blogs and let the reader decided with their own mind whether they agree with my view or another blogger. You can never grow without insight from other's on top of your own experiences. No man is self-made. Everyone had someone to help them along the way. It could be as simple as someone giving advice in investments, family matters, home ownership, best doctor, etc. I appreciate the good & not so good comments I receive. It's building my tough skin for when the critics have to rate my book. Yikes!!

What an absolutely horrendous blog! Discontinuous, eratic, illogical, and....

....uh....

Just kidding! Auto-approval is the way to go. I was hesitant at first, too. Most people are reasonable & polite, even in disagreement. I've yet to need to delete a comment.

I make it a point of honor to not delete comments to my work. I'm secure in who I am and what I feel. And if someone wants to step up and prove publicly that they are ignorant, arrogant, just plain brain damaged or there mama's didn't have the good sense to teach em rudimentary manors ... well, I'm pleased to provide them the the stage to do it. And besides, there awfully entertaining.

only those who are afraid of what may be said should choose to "approve" first.....just saying....

Waiting for approval is especially silly now with the one comment rule in place.

Now, sometimes you get crazy people who never say anything nice, but those you just block.

One should let their blogs stand the fire of other people to learn from and to see things from another perspective.

Yes, I do agree with you that it is a form of censorship.

I have always had mine set to auto-approve, only those who continued just to cause trouble without even considering what the blogs were about were blocked.

I have always had mine set on auto approve....after all, it's what the commenter has to say, not me. I seldom receive anything that is in immediate need of deletion. Actually, I prefer to leave all remarks where they can be seen by everyone. It doesn't take long for the readers to know who's who, and they can decide for themselves...they don't need me to tell them.

My worst problem these days, is my lack of enthusiasm since I don't have hours to ponder over the creation of a reply to someone's blog and, knowing I can't continue with any other comments, I lose interest in the time consuming job of following up on what others have written.

This has also crossed over into being lack of enthusiasm in creating a Blog....and, as many of you can see, I haven't written any lately.

Just my thoughts...sorry if they're negative....but, they're truthful.

no, often it is a case of 'taking responsibility' for controlling their own blog. we give everyone the option of auto-approval or not. 'approval' cuts down on off-topic or rude inciteful jabs, especially when the member is away from their computer. the option also allows no comments, if the blogger chooses. there's nothing (except the block button) that prevents someone from emailing the blogger directly.

for the most part, most bloggers allow all comments they receive, whether they have their settings set to auto-approve or not. and even if a comment isn't posted, the bloggers have received it in their email, and they are the ones the blog comment is technically supposed to be directed toward anyway.

Blogs--wait for approval
This is a person's way of saying--my way or wors or not at all.

If you are man/woman enough to write a blog (special enough in the political, racial, or religion area) then be a true person and accept another's person opinion.

This is true for most of the die hard political party people.

But again, it is good to see these people makes these stands for it is a good way to identify people as to their social education and level in society.

The remarks of some of these writers--would you want to be seen with them in society????????

So it is good that they want to approve any replies and good that they don't.

I just wish MD would mark these blogs before you waist your time reading them.

I agree with the forum mod.

This is NOT a forum open for discussion - it is a Statement by the
blog writer.

Anyone that has a problem with approval first has the problem, NOT the Blog writer.

Control freaks are everywhere.

I like to approve all comments on my blogs and see what comes. I have had no problems so far. I have often wondered what the waiters are guarding against, other than being outsmarted.

I guess I might censor the comments if I was full of chit, and didn't want anyone to point it out.

I skip most approval waiting blogs. They have a smell of cowardice to them, except for a few very tender hearted ladies.

I can't post someone's name and call him a troll, but if he does that himself, I let it stand to let everyone see who and what he is.

I like to just let things flow, like in real life.

This is the only place i've seen such a big deal made about this
If you don't want to wait for approval ( cause it is kind of annoying)
then don't comment.

Great blog though
Nicely written and not too judgmental.

It seems to me there are a number of reasons people allow or don't allow automatic approval. In part, as can be seen on so many blogs, or on Facebook, MySpace or YouTube...so much of personal self-generated content on the web is people talking/shouting/barking 'at' the world. They don't comment to invite dialogue...they generate a monologue and then wait for the applause. It's like their own one-(wo)man show. They climb on the site and start doing the corner-preacher gig where they preach the Good Word, and sing hymns of praise, some fellow 'believers' write some strong praise in chalk on the sidewalk...all's good.

Not interested in dialogue...people are not then trying to appear welcoming, warm and open.. this welcome is probably most tested by what it can show.

I like to hear it all, the good and the bad. And for me, I need to see the comment on the same page as the blog so I can take it all in.
I see the comment in my inbox but it doesn't hit home til I see it on the same page as the blog.
Maybe I am a little goofy....well, I am
I also like seeing all comments on other peoples blogs so I can hear all side of what others see.

I had my blogs set to auto-approve for friends on my list and on approval for everyone else for a very long time.

I once had a blog war break out on one of my blogs while I was away from the computer. People were commenting comments instead of the blog itself and it was full of nastiness by the time I returned.

Just recently, however, I changed my settings. I figure if somebody wants to prove themself an ass on my blog, I'll let them do it, and I'll leave it there for all to see.

Happy blogging.

This subject comes up from time to time. I see people who once had automatic approval change their settings to "approve only" often. Sad to say, not everyone is adult about making comments and get rude and don't follow the rules by making personal attacks etc. If everyone used their heads and would think about if their comment was a personal attack or nasty, this wouldn't be necessary, but sad to say they don't. MD "requires" each blogger to monitor their own blog, so maybe sometimes this is the only way if you get people who are ignorant when commenting. I don't really care either way, it's not a big deal to see my comment fast or a day or two later. This is just a blogging section and I don't know why ppl make such a big deal if they can't see in print what they write immediately just as long as it gets there. If it doesn't get there, maybe they might need to re-think how they comment next time. Remember, blogs do not "require" comments, they are suppose to stand on their own, and can be at the discretion of the blogger, if one doesn't like that rule, oh well, it's the way it is. Take care Lost
