Today is Easter Sunday. Many people will decorate eggs and hide them so children may go find them. We will hear stories about the Easter Bunny and eat plenty of chocolates in the shapes of eggs and bunnies. Like all holidays, we as people seem to always find distractions to take off our minds away from the true meaning of the day(ie; Santa Claus). But how many of us understand the true meaning of this day?
Easter is the celebration of the new life. The one Jesus gave us when He gave up His life and rose to Heaven on the third day. Through Him we have the chance at eternal life. Many people have questioned that if Jesus was all powerful, then why didn't He use that power to save Himself? But to save Himself was not part of God's plan. Jesus predicted on several occasions how He would die so that sinners(all of us) can go through Him to be forgiven by God on our judgment day. Jesus was about love and did not sin or hurt anyone. He went around spreading love and healing the sick. Yet He was killed because because His kindness and words were a threat to those who had power and were greedy, boastful and full of pride.
"Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning in Jerusalum." Luke 24:46-47
Jesus was about love, and the more love you have the less you sin. But since we are all human we all commit sin. Lucky for us that we have Jesus there to bail us out when we do. And we do have Jesus to rely on because He died for us and rose on the third day. For Jesus said;
"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die." John 11: 25-26
Thus is the new covenant. The one where through Jesus dying and rising on the third day we can be forgiven of our sins through Him. Thank you Jesus for what you did for me and all people. What a precious gift.
