As I read many love poems on here..or blogs about love...it comes to mind we are all searching for someone who can or will return to us that which we wish to give to another....What is better? to love or to be loved?? That is the eternal question..

When we give to another, they often doubt our sincerity...why? Because they usually have been "used" or taken advantage of...or they are "using us" or taking advantage of our desperation for love...tenderness...trust...touch....companionship..and other things we want but can't identify if we have never "had it" for real...only in our imaginations and fantasy....
The closeness we desire can only be had when we are free to give as well as receive that closeness with out any "strings" attached to pull like a puppet when things are not going as expected by the one who has control of the strings....
It is scary...terrifying even...so what do you do? GO SLOW! Don't expect it to be given in one package all wrapped up for you to just unwrap and magically everything will be just fine! Life is not that way!
We laugh..we cry...we fall...we skin our knees..we want someone to kiss and make it better...we look around and no one is there...so we take the closest thing and substitute it cause we want the real thing sooo bad....

Stop substitutes....love yourself so someone else can see the glow and will want to love you too...

Is it I loved him cause he first loved me? Or he loved me finally cause I always loved him through all his ups and downs...I saw something no one else could see...and he finally sees it in me?

with LOVE...only time can tell.....

Very well put.

I may be called dumb or stupid, but I will always pick myself up and try again.
Yes. Every time. As long as I am alive.

Both.

Which is better - to love or be loved. One compliments the other. One gives to the other and it always comes back.

Well, this is MY take on love.. but maybe mine only...

I believe it is better and more rewarding to "love." Like the poem I wrote and the blogs I have written, "Love is a Gift." I would say probably the majority of people that love, do so with expectations of receiving love in return. Why, you may say? I think it's because we learn by example and experience.

Our parents, our pastor or mentor(s), our families, and more, set an example to us as to what love should be. Often times its not the best example, so I think we often consider that it is better to be loved than to love.

That, coupled with our own experience, to us seems to be evidence that to be "loved" means to be accepted, or to be worthy.

So, then, if one believes love is indeed a gift, and we really do love a person, why is that not enough? Rather than to expect it or even in some cases, DEMAND that it be returned?

Great, thought provoking blog Fran!! Kudos to you!!

I also believe that is better, and more rewarding to love. But, it is a lonely place. To me nothing compares to the excitement of loving, and being loved in return. And that sort of fulfillment does not happen too often, I believe.

Trust is the most important aspect of any relationship, but we have to trust ourselves first. If we listen to our instincts, no amount of being hurt in the past will get in the way of a genuinely loving relationship.

I love this blog, Fran, full of passion and conviction!
