Our soul is the only thing that we have that we enter and leave this world with. So it is so sad that we go about destroying the only thing we get to keep for things of this world that we can not take with us.
When we enter this world are soul is pure. Sin and worldly ways help us destroy our soul. Greed, lusts, selfishness, violence, vanity, anger, power are things that corrupt our soul. So that when we pass on from this earth we will face God on our judgment day with a corrupt soul. And for what? To gain things that will either stay on this earth after we pass on or be ruined while we are still here?
All it takes to keep a pure soul is to have love for everyone. When you love people as much as you love yourself, you do not want to harm others. You have compassion and want to help others. You forgive others who harm you. You don't turn your head the other way when you see someone in need. You feel bad when you see others who are hurting. The love in your heart brings joy to yourself. So that when you pass on from this earth you will face God on your judgment day with a pure soul.
Is it better to face God with a pure soul or a corrupt soul? For God is not fooled, He knows what is in our hearts and what our intentions are, even if we try to keep it from other people.
Here is a little bible verse that makes the point.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
