Going shopping with my aunt is always a fun day for both of us. We never know what we will find or what will happen. It's one of those "girls' day out" excursions, and anything goes. We don't plan for things to happen; it just seems to happen that way.
I enjoy our outings at Wal-Mart. Something always seems to happen. I am usually the one with the problem. Being I have bad ankles, I am limited to use of an electric cart. I have become quite good in my driving skills now, dodging people and can even back that cart up better than my own car!
Last week we went shopping thru the store, and we were really enjoying the shopping spree when suddenly my battery went dead on the cart. I had not noticed the flashing light in all the excitement of our purchases. There we were, all the way to the back of the store in the nursery area! We asked for help, and the employee lead us to an electrical outlet! Now they were running water everywhere watering plants, and I just did not feel safe charging it under those circumstances. Being my aunt is a former Wal-Mart greeter, we managed to get the cart moving at its slow pace, and with my driving, she pushed me to the front of the store again. It was hilarious watching people's faces as she did it. We made it to the front after several minutes, picked up a different charged-up cart, transferred our anticipated purchases, and off we went again to finish up.
This week we returned to the store, and I got an electric cart again. We were off and running fully charged - her trotting alongside me as I sped down the aisles. Then we went to the clothing department. Those aisles are much smaller, not really made for driving an electric cart through. With my experience though, I felt I could make it through them. My aunt started moving aisle to aisle, and I kept trying to maneuver the cart to keep up. Then it happened. I had my back wheel hung up against one of the displays. I tried to pull out by "hitting the gas" but then I saw the display of clothing coming with me! My aunt gave out a hearty laugh as I tried and tried, but the darn thing moved with me. She finally pulled the display of shirts and loosened it from my wheels. She shot me a warning to not be moving the displays, laughing at the time. We continued to move around again, and once again my back wheels locked into still another display. Once again, she freed me. She said to quit re-arranging Wal-Mart!! So I kept to wider aisles, avoiding the displays of clothing so it would not happen again. I swung wide in an effort to keep my vehicle moving. BAM! I had run into one again the third time. By this time, I have "lost it" and was laughing at myself hysterically. What would the security men think - watching on cameras, this woman hung up three times, moving their merchandise around?
My aunt became hysterial in laughter too. At least we kept a good attitude about it. I was in the midst of trying to free myself for the third time, and I looked for my aunt. SHE HAD WALKED AWAY, LAUGHING UNCONTROLLABLY. SHE ACTED LIKE SHE DID NOT KNOW ME!! Then another customer saw my dilemma, came up to ask if she could help me. Once again she pulled the table free from the wheels and I was on my way again. However, I was laughing so hard at myself, I had to stop, once freed, and just lay my head down upon the steering device.
At that point my aunt said she was done shopping. Well, I was certainly glad to see we were going to be free of that clothing department! I will probably not pursue that area on an electric cart again.
It's a good thing they don't give tickets for driving electric carts because I would have really racked them up. I probably would have lost my license!
