I want to be Great, Gram-pa!
My 7 year old Grandson made this statement to me recently, as I was at my daughters home visiting. So on my drive home, it got me studying; Why,
he would say this, and what is greatness?....... I thought about the pressures, the children of today are under, saturated with competition in school and out. The images a child is subjected to, that proclaim greatness; from clothes, homes, cars, hair, body, teeth, and when I thought about it , the list is endless in our commercial world, of sale! sale! sale!.......Not that am anti-free enterprise, on the contrary. I love it. However, when one buys a product, reaches a goal, self improves, or emulates northers behavior; for the sake of Greatness I find this delusional, and determent al in one finding their true internal greatness...........
So with these thoughts, I figured I need to help guide my Grandson. So when I got home, I phoned him
(Me) Hi Hayden its Grandpa!.....(Hayden) Hi Grandpa!.....(Me) do you remember, you saying today, you wanted to be great?..(Hayden) Yea...(Me) Son you are Great and will continue to be, so as long as you do what makes you feel happy, and alive,as long as you respect yourself and others (Hayden) what Grandpa? (Me).....ummmm..well for example: you know your Goldfish Jeff Gordon (Hayden) yea! (Me) well he swims around and his in his bowl and he does this because it makes him happy and feel alive, and that makes him great, and when he poops he doesn't poop in another goldfishes bowl, he poops in his own,and hes careful only to poop in one small part of his bowl;that is respect for yourself and others.....(Hayden) nuhuhh! Grandpa, I seen him poop a whole alot everyplace!!! (Me) oh ok, so ...do you know what great is, now?...........(Hayden)..........yea, Mommy said I was gona be a Great Doctor...but I wanta be a school bus driver,cause I'm happy when I ride the bus....(Me) Good nite Hayden (Hayden) bye Grandpa (Me)  (Waiting from a call from his Mother)
