A few months ago, Obama said that bankruptcy for GM and Chrysler was out of the question because it would destroy the economy. That was his pretence to take tens of billions of dollars from taxpayers and sink it into the failing auto makers in order to prevent that catastrophic result.
Fast forward a few months and billions of dollars of our money. Both Chrysler and GM have filed for bankruptcy, our money has apparently gone down a rat hole somewhere, but apparently it isn't too catastrophic for Obama any more. Could that be because it took him a few months to figure out how he would use the force of government to trample the private property rights of GM owners, confiscate the company at taxpayers expense and turn it over to the corrupt unions who in turn pledge their votes to Democrats?
That aside, I heard a few of the numbers relating to GM and did a quick calculation. Obama gave GM $20 billion so far and is about to give them another $30 billion (or maybe already has, I'm not sure exactly when). So... so far GM alone got $50 billion of taxpayers money.
Obama says that saving GM will save up to 40,000 jobs, and that's why it is so crucial to do it.
40,000 jobs?
That means for GM Obama is spending $1.25 million of our money per job saved! $1 and a quarter million per job! WTF???
And anyone who thinks that Obama is through giving away our money to GM to buy union votes should contact me. I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. $50 billion is just the beginning.
Here's an idea Mr. President:
How about we just GIVE each of these 40,000 people $1 million each, make them all millionaires and save the taxpayers $10 BILLION?
HMMMMMMMMMMM?

The best way to save the auto industry is to force them to save themselves. If we don't get better at the business, ugh.....
Quit trying to compete with the Japanese, we can't nuke our way out of this war!
There's a better fix!
You know what the US does better than Japan in the auto industry? Trucks, shift the focus on the damn trucks US auto. What else do we do better? Hot rods!
Seen the new Camaro? Hey people will buy them if you just make them bitchin, we will save and scrimp to buy one, the base model should be the one that's fully loaded with the big motor paint package the works, it should be about $50 Grand. Instead we try to sell one that costs less than it did to make, to "compete" with what? The Camry? You'll never win that war.

I don't like the idea of unions "being bailed out" at my expense. There is no free enterprise in any of that. So I'll agree with you on this one DR.
Unions are dragging down the country...... a country which is now involved in world wide trade and competition.

I agree with you DR, the problem is, we just don't have the money to do what needs to be done. The saying you can't get blood out of a turnip holds true. We already are begging China for money which they've already said no to us once, so who knows where this money is going to come from. We are in a very scary situation here and I don't think people realize it yet as it hasn't hit our pocket books full force as of yet. We are not all standing in soup lines and haven't lost everything like the Great Depression, but is that what it's going to take before it "hits" us in the face? Lost

Obama's whole bailout program is a complete forest...
1. Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution declares what powers Congress do and do not have. Such a power as to give federal aid to private companies is not even vaguely listed.
2. Ammendment X to the Constitution states, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states, or to the people, respectively." http://www.law.cornell.edu... Therefore, because the Constitution does not delegate such a power to the United States, it is reserved to the states. The states may aid private companies, but the federal government may not.
As I see it, this is in clear black and white.
Obama's stimulus program is taking state moneys and using it for federal aid programs to privately owned companies..Thats a no no..
DR what Obama is trying to create is what one can call
corporatism the theory and practice of organizing society into “corporations” subordinate to the state. According to corporatist theory, workers and employers would be organized into industrial and professional corporations serving as organs of political representation and controlling to a large extent the persons and activities within their jurisdiction. However, as the “corporate state” was put into effect in fascist Italy between World Wars I and II, it reflected the will of the country’s dictator, Benito Mussolini, rather than the adjusted interests of economic groups.

Good blog DR.
On a local radio show here, they said that they thought the whole thing was planned from the start, Why give all that money to a company you KNOW is going to fail?.. easy answer.. cos youll own it when they do of course! Now he's encouraging the people who couldnt pay thier mortgages to refinance.. if they couldnt pay then.. how will they pay now?.. hmm maybe this is deliberate too so the government can own properties and rent them like they do in Britain.
well why not.. hes doing everything else Britains doing... just a thought.
