You know that I love you.

Sweetie , honey, babe, love muffin , etc. All those little terms of endearment when said by the right person at the right time can make you sigh with contentment.

So why is it that strangers will include these in a first email? A stranger or maybe just a strange person saying something meant for someone who holds a small piece of your heart or if really lucky a bigger piece of your heart.

I never answer these types of emails. If they can be so flippant with something that should mean something, phooey on them.

I kinda like it when the scammers refer to me as tigerman before asking for my email.

Hey.. I have friends that introduce themselves that way in first introductions.. ..

"Hey Sugar".. .. and when leaving.. "Okay Sugar Pie, take care of yourself!" .. I've seen it work good for them at times..

I guess it's in how YOU perceive it

You can take it as a compliment, put down or a term of endearment ...

I take it as being too personal with a complete stranger.

The South is a bit mor informal and broad in the use of such terms than the North, hence they are used more.

Personally I agree that they are best used vocally, at tender moments. As far as putting them in print I follow the advice of the great lawyer and statesman Clarrence Darrow. Love letters were often evidence in estrangement of affection suits in his times.

Do right and fear no man. Don't write, and fear no woman.

I agree with Tom, I live in the South and even women call each other Honey, I find myself doing it. It becomes a habit and people down here don't take it personally at all. Everyone is Darlin' or Sweetheart. Even my 15 year old daughter calls her school friends darlin'. So I guess it's only natural when typing, I guess you might look at where they come from. It's like the Brits calling everyone Love. I don't think anyone means any harm, they could call you something worse lol. Take care Lost

I live in the north and we call people hun, sweetie, etc. To write it in an introduction is presumptuous. Add in sexy and it's instant delete. I don't care where you are from.

If a man is considered mine I don't want him calling other women sweet names. Even if it is a habit. So why would I accept sweet names as something normal from a stranger? Use manners or pass me by.

Sherry you may be getting a lot of "babe" intros because of your name on here.

Justme, I agree with the sexy introduction, no one uses that term here unless it's a come on, and I find that rude. I delete those too. Or Hi baby either. I guess it depends on how long you've been writing and the context in which the sentence was meant. For example: You sure seem like a sweetie in your profile, now I wouldn't seem that as being too forward. Take care Lost

Some people use those terms as routine, makes them worthless in the end.
