I don't care how many tears she sheds because her teenage sister got one for graduation. Any parents who succumb to favoritism and are forced to give their 7 year old daughter an iPhone complete with internet, texting, video e-mail GPS and all the goodies (because her sister has one...) has TOTALLY LOST IT AS PARENTS.
Yes... your big sister is twice your age, got all A's on her report card and has a bit more maturity not to whine and cry everytime 'someone else' has more than her.
Besides, there are poor starving children in third-world countries who have never seen a 42" flatscreen HD TV like the one in your bedroom.
A yuppie father was sharing his woes with me last week. I honestly didn't have any sympathy for him at all.
I pity her boyfriends when she grows older...

Actually I didn't even own a cell until my teen got her driver's license and I thought it would be wise in case she was stranded on the road, I got her a added to my triple A too. But she pays for her own cell and her own insurance as she has a job. It's called responsibility, which one gets as they grow older, it's not a given. I agree with you Chat. Take care Lost

My 7 year doesn't understand why he can't have a phone when all of his cousins do.
There is no reason for a child that young to have a phone...especially one with all the bells and whistles. Kids get far too much now a days and they have nothing to look forward to when they get older.

Yep! Got to agree. My nephew had a four hundred dollar phone. That was before he got kicked out of school for drugs the second time. I do have to agree with Lost on the older teenager thing though. My mom bought me a phone that had like 15 minutes on it when I was 17 and working out of town. I didnt own another ond until last year.

I think a lot of parents (wrongly) buy thier kids by giving them these things instead of proper parenting and spending time with them.
Its quicker to write a check for a phone than it is to spend an afternoon at the ball park.

Children in elementary school and middle school who are not driving do not need cell phones, especially not an iphone. Even teenagers who have cell phones don't "need them", it's just gotten to be that everyone has them.
Parents need to remember how to say No.

Holy crap.
Did she just ask for it? Or did they get her one?
If they bought her one, they need to be slapped.

Part of the problem nowadays is that parents what to be thier kids friends and not their parents. But I am sorry part of parenting is saying no--at least sometimes and not yes all the time!

OK, so look at this from the parents point of view... they are paying for their kids to go to private school... ALL the other kids have iPhones.
It's a no-win situation.
Do I need to explain more?

If they bought her one, they need to be slapped. Yes, regardless of the circumstance, they need to be slapped.
