Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.... The subjection of individuals will increase amongst democratic nations, not only in the same proportion as their equality, but in the same proportion as their ignorance.
ALEXIS DE TOCQUEVILLE, Democracy in America This is one of my favorite quotes.
What it means is this.
Liberty and equality are two opposing forces. They cannot be achieved simultaneously.
If a society is forced to provide for everyone "equally," then that necessarily means that there is no liberty, because liberty requires the right to success and to failure, neither of which can be guaranteed while still remaining free.
Our Founding Fathers understood this concept well.
That is why they made it clear that all men are equal to PURSUE success, but not necessarily to achieve it.
As we fight this ideological civil war, with one side insisting on perfect equality and the other demanding that we maintain the liberty that our founding principles provided for, keep this concept in mind. And choose wisely because your freedom is at stake.

I've read over the Constitution a bunch of times...
And damned if I can find one word about anyone being promised artificially manipulated equality or a guaranteed happy ending...

What I love is that people believe they should be treated equally. To explain before someone tries to bite my head off. Equality is earned and not given. We all have rights, that I will never deny. But when it comes to materialism, we believe we should all have what the rich have. I work hard for everything I have, so why should someone who doesnt work, be given the same things? People want the newest, biggest, badest thing around. If they dont get it, they cry ineqaulity. How is that fair? By setting standards like that, we devalue social and and equal morals. Why should I work hard when I could go on welfare to aquire the same things? Granted my tastes are a bit on the expensive side, I like books that are closer to the original printing. I guess the one thing that seperates me and others like me is the sense of pride. I can say I didnt buy my books from the taxpayers money. I am proud to say I did it on my own.

That is why they made it clear that all men are equal to PURSUE success, but not necessarily to achieve it. Diamond it also means one can pursue success again, if they fail at first.
Good thoughts and blog!

Life - it is your right as long as you have it
Liberty - you have all of it that you are willing to fight to keep
Pursuit of Happiness - chase your tail all you like, define it however you like

DR Obama thinks that the Constitution is a document of negative liberties..He said it in an interview...
Also unemployment figures have topped 10 percent now..Wonder when the media is going to start to blame Obama..I hope soon. You never heard Reagan complain when Carter handed him 10 .8 percent unemployment..All Obama does is cry..
I like this quote DR,,
By liberty I mean the assurance that every man shall be protected in doing what he believes is his duty against the influence of authority and majorities, custom and opinion.
Kep up the good work DR..
