America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact - the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality. ~Adlai Stevenson

Less then 3 weeks is July 4th. With all this crap about I hate your party and I hate your party leaders, and I just don't care, and the this is wrong and why, got a thinking, if we championed for what we do like, what we do enjoy, instead of the frustration making of the negativity generator of what we do not like, maybe a lot more happiness could be found.
The skies not falling, just yet, so enjoy. If you allow yourself to get wrapped up in whats wrong, you'll know never all that's what right that is there to enjoy.

It makes me proud to say I am an American.

That's a great quote, but so very very wrong. Moral? Not really.
Human Equality? For those only outside the womb.

On July 4th i celebrate it because i'm free. I'm not in some sand trap wearing a Burka while my husband beats me with sticks in the street.
God Bless America because that is not our lives. America has made it possible for all of us to love and hate, sing and dance, enjoy all that life has to offer, live our lives however we want to. That's freakin awesome.

But i won't spend that day forgetting about the atrocities that we face everyday.
That our freedom has been used for immoral and disgusting things.
Freedom does indeed have a huge price.

Hey, thank, RWR, for your comments.
But yet didnt you just prove that the quote is correct? Because your not in some sand trap getting your ass whooped. You ARE breathin, alive and well. You have not been aborted. And with this statement?
America has made it possible for all of us to love and hate, sing and dance, enjoy all that life has to offer, live our lives however we want to.
The quote stands still.

But i won't spend that day forgetting about the atrocities that we face everyday.
That's sad to hear, you willing choose to live like that, and so is your choice. No matter how sad it is to hear.

Yes there is a price for freedom.
It usually paid in blood.

I plan on spending the 4th, eating hot dogs, sucking soda since I don't drink and ohhh ahhhing over fireworks with my sons.

Luckily, we're not a 'moral' nation in some narrow prescribed version that some wish to impose on all...but there is an underlying 'morality' about fairness, equality, justice, law, and so on that brings us back again and again to struggle for a more fair nation, a more equal nation, a more just nation, with laws that can include benefit for all, not just for some.

Morality has many dimensions to it. Basically, it is little more than people arguing what they agree with as a behavior. But lacking any validity to impose morality if it is little more than what I agree with as a behavior, we hide behind old books, old men in the sky, or similar authority as we attempt to impose it on others. We see the naked nature of self-absorption in 'morality' when we see how much of the 'pro-life' community supports war, torture and capital punishment. We see it in the arguments for affirmative action until it affects us.

But beneath this nation being filled with human beings who similar to all human beings, are a mess, there is a shared sense of ..."we can make it better." Even when we're right-wing reactionary, angry and defensive about the direction the nation has taken, we believe..."we can make it better." Even when in we're Weather Underground crazy...we believe..."we can make it better."

Too bad our morality gets in the way of WE can make it better, a 'WE' that refers to and includes all of us, as instead we isolate with our groups of shared self-absorption and get sidetracked by...'we can make it better.'... for us...not US...

Not USA....

Dialogue...it should be what's for dinner....

Yes Burns,
I proved it to be semi-true.

America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political fact. the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom and responsible government.
I would say that this is truer.

The fact we aren't stuck in some third world shit hole is what i am thankful for.
But it's hard to have faith in a Country which allows so many horrific things.
It makes me think about how great we have it in one way and how terrible we have it in other. What does it say for a Country that allows kids to be killed before they are ever born. It's not moral in any sense of the word.
You would think we would be sure to give human equality to all. Anyone. I'm talking everyone. I don't care much about what people do in their own lives. I'm not the authority who has the right to judge their lifestyles. this is America for goodness sake. But when it goes over the line and harms innocent beings, that's where my sadness and confusion about our freedoms lie.

I'm so proud to be an American living this life, so proud. But it's hard to be proud of our Country when we allow atrocities on our own soil.

Sorry, i'm just not sure how to put it all into words.

There is a price for freedom,
paid with the blood of the innocent.

This blog just goes to show America the land of the Free still has a long way to go before everyone is free. The meaning still has a long way to go before All Americans can enjoy the same freedoms for each and everyone one of us. We all don't get to enjoy the same freedoms it seems because we all can't seem to agree on the same subjects such as babies in the womb and so forth. I don't know if that ever will happen. It's kind of a shame, as I'd hate to be that baby, wanting to be born, wanting to be loved, who knows what their little mind is thinking especially if they grow up believing in reincarnation and their life was just snuffed out? Anyways, I am going to celebrate the Holiday with my family at the lake, cooking out and Thankful for the blessings I do have. Too many people don't realize what we are given and take them for granted. My best friend is in Iraq right now and might not return, one never knows, he's fighting still for our freedom and believes in what he's doing, along with his buddies and thousands like him. So just keep in mind, without our Military, there would be no Independence Day to celebrate, think about that one time, would ya? Take care Lost
