I am sure you have all met or at least spoken to these people. No matter what the conversation is they don't smile or laugh and not only take things too seriously but often time they "read" negativity in to the most innocent and silly things one might say.
I have recently had an experience with one of these people and I am now frustrated! It was a phone conversation and yes... I had a "blond" moment.. lol...and asked what proved to be a dumb question.. yet instead of this person teasing me (just slightly) in hopes that I may see it myself, which of course I do... and normally as soon as I ask it... . they pick it apart and ME apart and "analyze" it and make me feel inferior for asking it! To me that is degrading and hurtful, and if they really were getting to know me like they say they want to.... they would have noticed already that it's just part of my quirky personality, and that I always give people the benefit of the doubt.
I am patient, understanding and intelligent, but on occasion there is a person that do es not ask questions of me to learn how I am! On top of that, this person never lets me finish speaking. I just cannot and refuse to, deal with that!!!
Sometimes I ask things before I think it through. It's just me, and I think at times we all may do that!!! I got so frustrated with this person that I hung up and was in tears!! I NEVER, EVER, hang up on people!!!!!! It's just out of character for me and I do feel bad... but Come ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course if for example, he stopped to realize that tomorrow is Fathers Day and I just may be having a hard time with that reality, he may have seen why I may say some things without always thinking.
Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Ive been there done that, as many of us have at one time or another and its rude.
I am the first to laugh at myself, and I dont even mind others having a chuckle at my expence sometimes, but theres a difference between having a chuckle and being degrading, and theres really no need of it.
As Dizzy says.. nothing wrong with putting the phone down.

awwww be glad you could hang up on him ... I was married to mine for 20 years ... it was very refreshing to not have to deal with that on a daily basis. you did ok by hanging up .. I think you probably got your point across.

A gentleman from MD was emailing me and doing his best to get my phone number because he was positive you could tell if there was chemistry over the phone but not in writing. (I believe in neither btw)
After reading what he wrote and how he wrote, I politely declined to give him my number and wished him the best of luck. Oh my gosh he sent me the most disgusting email telling me off for not believing his honest words. I was happy I listened to my red flag but after reading your post, I'm so very grateful I did't have to deal with him on the phone.

Glad you found out now, while things were still in the beginning stages of getting to know him. Sounds to me like there's a REAL GOOD reason why he's single.. & it doesn't take rocket Scientology to figure that one out! Hang in there.. there are nice, patient guys out there.
