If any of ya'll have ever had to clean out the house of a parent or relative for whatever reason, you'll relate to this blog. For those of you that would rather read better things, feel free. It began a week ago last Friday when my cousin Mike & his mate Chris drove up from Virginia Beach, VA. A 20 yard capacity dumpster was supposed to be waiting upon arrival, but they arrived to an empty driveway. They called & were told that the order was indeed placed, but the company couldn't figure out why no one delivered it. And with no weekend deliveries, this would mean a full weekend wasted because of not having that container for junk. So.. last weekend ended up being a catch up weekend, over good backyard conversation, & a few Lienie's. On Monday the dumpster finally arrived, & each evening after work I went over to assist them in getting the items sorted, thrown out & ready for the estate sale the following weekend (today). My aunt & uncle lived in that house over 45 years, & so we knew we had a monstrous project ahead. The garage alone filled up one dumpster! We were in awe @ the things my uncle saved... HUNDREDS of plastic margarine containers, doughnut hole containers, old vacuum cleaners & electronics that no longer worked, Publishers Clearing House stuff from the 70's & 80's. I could go on, but I'll just say there were dozens of different things that had very little if any value that he did nothing with. They just sat in the garage. That attic was much of the same. 15 hrs. of sorting, tossing, & relocating items in 105+ degree heat. There were things however that he was wise in saving, if only he had not just kept them stored where they dry rotted, yellowed, & lost value. All in all though, there were lots of laughs, lots of memories, & lots of things I never knew existed. The sale did EXTREMELY well. There will be one final time of this in September, when they return to finish up. So, for those of you that have had the experience with pack rat relatives, I feel your pain! *HUGS & FOOTRUBS* ladies.. *HANDSHAKES* guys..

I can only imagine what a task that must have been! A few weeks ago, I moved my Grandmother from one nursing home to another 250 miles away. My son and I took his Tahoe and a large trailer. It took every inch of it!!! Since her room here in town is about half the size of the one she had at the other nursing home, there was lots of stuff that couldn't go with her. That "stuff" is now residing in my house mostly in the dining room all stacked up. I am now resolved to stop my pack rat ways asap! I'm glad your sale went well and you had some good socializing time in the process. Now, get a good night's sleep. You've earned it!

Mhmmm a too familiar experience for me... been there, done that... several times!!! Helped my mom with my granma's stuff, a few years later with my grandpa's, then with my dad's and a little bit with her own stuff when she downsized house...
"Bare minimum" sounds like an ideal lifestyle for me
Anyway, glad that you helped your cousin out to get that done, that you could catch up with him and that the sale went well.
