A National Geographic Special

Its one of the best TV productions available today, many new discoveries are been uncovered and at last, we are free to receive the truth. There were so many gospels purposefully left out of the early Bible. There is very tangible evidence that in the early centuries of the fledgling church women were more influential than is traditionally believed - Mary Magdalene played a prominent role.

One of the worlds great mysteries, a biblical conundrum. Between the ages of 12 and 30 the life of Jesus Christ is unaccounted for. There is no written record, no tales told.

Another National Geographic Special

Doll, I must say that I like your style

I have noticed that some, men especially put So much Effort into Sounding Intelligent, to the point that their Point is all but lost.

You seem to be much like me, I would rather convey my truth in Lay Terms that all can understand, weather they agree or not where I am coming from is not Nebulous.

Also, I will Gladly settle for using Both Hemispheres of My Brain AT the Same Time and Know for Myself my intelligence then Try to Proof it to the World...

Is this special on The Magdalene on now? I'll have to check out Nat Geo and see...

There ya go.

It is also said that she may even be in the painting of the last supper, sat to jesus's right, (our left)

She very possibly had more of an involvement in Jesus's teachings, but in those days women were not recognised as having anything to contribute religous or anything else wise.

Things havent changed much have they!

Oh, I know the story...it's possible that I have seen this special too.

I really wondered why the church made such a ruckus about the Da Vinci Code...kinda makes one think that there is more truth than fiction...

The lost Gospel of Mary Magdalene was on a while back on nat geo, but they often return as you know... have you watched the YouTube link, that pretty much gives the story

Things havent changed much have they!

I agree with everything you say CHARLI

Igloo

At least these days we will not get burned at the stake for exploring other beliefs like the Gnostic followers were.

I loved the Da Vinci Code, it threatens the church... they lead us believe Mary Magdalene was a prostitute until Dan Browns novel came out....then suddenly the clergy admitted she was actually a saint.

So why only after the novel came out did the truth follow.... the more the church is exposed the further i run from it

Still, I will go to heaven

The Da Vinci code was dealt with in its entirety by Nat Geo, it was enlightening and certain researched claims by him were proven true.

Redwicket

Jun 22 @ 3:40PM
IMO the Da Vinci Code was a vehicle to convey an idea...for ME that being that the Church keeps things from the public because the truth Would set US free. IF you are into history perhaps you have noticed that the Church created a world that gave them total power over the populace of the time using fear...they usurped that power from someplace, where do you think that would be???

If you haven't a clue perhaps some research is in order...

What I find interesting about religions who believe in Jesus because of this, they preach and teach that God inspired the scribes to write the bible and God is perfect, then why or who are they to edit God words.

Now, I am person who believe in Jesus, but, not in religious groups.

Now, I am person who believe in Jesus, but, not in religious groups.

i am not surprised

throughout time the Bible has been written and rewritten over and over again, this means certain texts were changed or dropped completely, and some stories possibly added. Also Bible stories were carried down verbally by communities after Jesus was crucified for up to approx. 50 years, only after that those stories were recorded in the Bible... and then some gospels were purposefully left out. These are now been discovered and explored to the full by National Geographic

National Geographic can hardly be described as objective.

They constantly push their political program through "education". They push it with slanted pictures, innuendo, and selective reporting, as well as other indirect techniques.

They are anti Catholic, probably because Pope Pius helped some Germans escape from the aftermath of WW2. Their information usually portrays some bad aspect of that church.

They are strongly pro Israel.

They are strongly anti Palestinian.

Their portrayal of the Cossacks was nothing short of a butchery. The Cossacks slaughtered Jews for the Czar in the pomgroms of Russia.

Is there a pattern here? Can you guess who owns National Geographic, and pushes their own agenda? Can you guess what the owners of all major American broadcasting stations and most newspapers have in common? Hint - Have you ever seen a photo where Yasar Arafat looked noble or heroic on any of them?

oh brother, another conspiracy theorist. tom, nat geo uses respected professionals in their respective fields to keep us up-to-date with the lastest discoveries.... i have seen the excavation sites and ancient tablets as they get dusted, cleaned and interpreted. i doubt these professionals would put their reputations on the line because national geographic's slant is:

well thats humanity for you islooo, cruel as ever... i will add you to my friends and you can read my posts on my bulletin board about Gnosticism if you wish.

most people dont learn, sure they are intelligent.... but they still remain ignorant by choice. they are led like sheep or goats whatever side of the line they stand in the church.

i mean, why would anybody follow a group who's roots are bound in the Inquisition. Now there are some monks you wouldnt want to see in a dark alley in those days.

besides as i said on another blog there are 34,000 sub groups of Christianity
and a church divided is no a church at all

I don't know about Doll, but I am an Avid reader...and lifelong Student of History. I have done Indepth research on many belief systems, using Many information sources...which includes I might add numerous University Libraries.

As a child we were encouraged by my Mother to learn as much as we could and visit churches and groups in order to get a first hand experience of what they stand for...I have Always taken an Honest look...how about you???

Want to defend a Power System such as the Church with Roots so deeply entrenched in Violence that's your right...I Don't have a Dog in that fight, I've done my research, I have a basis for MY belief system.

I believe religion has become so contorted over the eons.. All the churches claim to have the "only" correct interpretation of the written word.. How did that come to be? The Bible has been rewritten over time.. the one we are most familiar with is King James version.. rewritten to his liking.... Who really knows what has been left out or rewritten? Some religions have supplemental books.. i.e. book of Mormon... Jehovah Witness leaves versus out of there bible.. It has been chopped and edited so much over time.. Who knows the real truth??..
All I can do for myself is be a solitary worshiper .. listen to what my conscious tells me (my inner belief system).. Treat others as I would treat myself..Be true to myself.. and show respect to all life (which means you should show respect to everything you do.. as everything is living)

Actually, I believe women probably had a prominent role in the days of Jesus. I've heard tales of a very matriarchal society, but things were changed with the Council of Nicea to give men a more dominant role.

Personally, I am of the opinion that the "Bible" should be firmly entrenched in the "fiction" section of the bookshelf, if for no other reason than the fact that it is 100% man-made. Furthermore, there are so many different "versions" and "editions" that one must wonder why they needed so many tries to get "God's word" right?

Someone mentioned the so-called "King James" edition; aye, there's a real gem for you! That particular version was produced at the behest of (and many would say "under the direction of") one King James I (Stuart), Scottish Catholic king of then-mostly-Protestant England. Most modern Biblical scholars have a major bone of contention with this version over the deliberate mistranslation of one particular verse;

"suffer not a 'witch' to live among you."

According to virtually every single Talmudic, Catholic and Greek Orthodox scholar ever consulted, that verse very specifically says "poisoner," and not "witch."

I can certainly understand a prohibition against allowing a "poisoner" to live among you. After all, poisoners are very indiscriminate killers; they often set a trap for one person (or one group of persons) but end up killing many more, such as the ancient Middle Eastern custom of poisoning a well/water hole. Such a trap will not only kill your intended target/s, but also everyone else who drinks from that well/waterhole for days, weeks or even months to follow. Clearly, it would is unwise in the extreme to "suffer a poisoner to live among you!"

Being the Scottish Catholic ruler of Protestant England, James I was hugely unpopular, so much so that he needed a scapegoat in order to deflect his subjects' hate elsewhere. That's why he picked on "witches," and tried to lay the blame for all the social ills of his kingdom on them. There is an overwhelming preponderance of historical evidence which suggests that King James applied massive pressure on the Anglican clerics who created the KJE to change that word from "poisoner" to "witch."

So if, as most Christians would have us believe, the Bible is "God's word," how is it so readily and easily changed by mere men?

Contrary to popular opinion, not a single supposed "witch" was burned at Salem; all but one of the innocents executed after the "Salem Witch Trials" were in fact hanged, not burned. The sole exception died from "pressing," which literally means "binding someone in a wooden frame and piling heavy rocks upon it, usually in an effort to gain a confession."

I've known a great many "pagans" and "Wiccans" who claimed (and quite adamantly, too!) that "thousands of 'witches' were burned at Salem!" One of them who proclaimed herself a "Druidic Priestess" (sorry, toots...every single historical reference indicates that the Druimhin or "Druidic priesthood" were exclusively male) even went so far as to question "why so many Christians wear crosses," saying "That would be like me wearing a burnt match to honour the thousands of witches burned at Salem!" Needless to say, I have not endeared myself to them by calmly and repeatedly stating the documented historical fact that not one "witch" was burned at Salem.

Whenever anyone says, "Gimme that old-time religion," all I can think about are past excesses like the so-called "Holy Crusades" (and especially the "Albigensian Crusade," the aim of which was ridding Europe of the "Cathars," a rival European Christian sect), the Spanish Inquisition (which was originally meant to eliminate "Cathar heretics" and Muslims from Al Andalus {"Moorish Spain"} after it was "liberated" by Christian Spanish forces, and which later persecuted Jews and even other Christians for "not being orthodox enough!"), the many so-called witch hunts, witch trials, and all other manner of human evil...only "old time religion" (and Nazism, but that's another story...or "religion") has been able to justify such heinous torture, persecution and racism...oh, joy!

Ain't religion grand?
Redwicket

Jun 23 @ 7:31PM
No...No Witches burned at Salem...But, prior to that there was a Massive movement throughout Europe, murdering Women in the Extreme...Murder in Many Forms, not just burning. This Is documented, but information that you Really have to dig to find.
One town in Germany, hundreds of Women killed...Only TWO were left alive!

Guess someone noticed there were Only Two and decided Someone had to care for the children...

This is what they mean...And NOT Just Pagans...when they talk about the Burning Times.

The Bible as it stands now has many books that were not added to it. It is said that parts of it such as Letters to John etc., if John knew at the time he was going to be quoted, he might have been a bit more clear when he wrote them. Such as anything you might write, if you know it's going to be published, you might write it down a bit differently than if you didn't. So yes there is speculation when things get repeated over and over through many people. It's even done in our lives today. However the message remains similar to most or the masses. There are some who see things differently, but the majority can see the big picture, and it's what is in your heart that matters when it comes to faith or religion. Lost

The Inquisition and witch hunts removed any free thinkers who might have become critics of the church, and moved the control of medicine from the public domain into the control of the catholic church and its universities.

Fortunately, the internet is, to a degree, reversing that control of knowledge.

To change what was basically a Matriarchal Society to a Patriarchal Society...

the only time the world will truly be free to grow and develop as God intends, is when EVERY country embraces that man and woman are equal.... i pretty much doubt this will happen in my lifetime

Fortunately, the internet is, to a degree, reversing that control of knowledge.

thank God for that

Yes, the original scriptures were a bit different than the Roman Catholic Bible. For example, the Ten Commandments state in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and the English Bible, "Thou shall not worship idols or graven images,"

This was changed by the Church in Rome, after it became the state church, because they were indeed, worshiping idols and graven images, the saints and apostles replace the Roman pantheon.
