Problem #1 - Violent Crime
So many in jail, so many going back time and time again. Violent a$$holes who have done enough to cause harm to others and we rehabilitate them by sticking them in an expensive little box full of other a$$holes to make friends with. A short term solution to a problem that has plagued man since the dawn of time.
Oh I agree that jail should be worse and that's a complete other blog. I say we seek a real, long term solution to the problem that will have a more profound effect.
Something that leaves an option, an out, when the appeals system exonerates the innocent. Something that sends a clear message, proposes a cure and not a treatment, and doesn't dismantle the current system too quickly.
I'm talking about vasectomy. Currently there are literally hundreds of studies that link violence to genetic inheritance. So, along with your sentence, if you are convicted of violence against others, including threatening of violence as in armed robbery, they get a free vasectomy to go along with your cable tv, workout room and high speed internet during their vacation from society.
Just Google genetic violence and you'll see there's a thousand studies showing a link.
It is reversible should the courts later determine innocence, and in the long run, 100 years from now or so, the impulsive violent behavior will diminish, because the genetic strand will not be handed down, generation after generation. Call me crazy, but yeah. Call me crazy.

The problem with that idea is they usually breed before going to prison. You might be able to knock out a small percentage of new borns when they come out. I prefer my ideas though. .357 hallow point or .44, with that you have absolutly no chance to re offend. Good idead though.

A society(not a country) in Africa some time ago had a local judicial system. If you were found guilty of a crime, the local elders told you to rehabilitate yourself. If you were ever found guilty of another crime, no matter what it was, you died. They didn't seem to have a lot of crime problems.

That's an idea and the rapist castrated so they don't have the urge or can't get it up anymore like the do to animals. I know they have medication or chips for this but some don't take it or cut the chips out. We keep paying tons of money supporting criminals to live comfortably although I couldn't live locked up myself. Day by day they keep getting more rights, I think some need to be taken away. Lost

 For repeat & habitual offenders lesser crimes:
I like the idea of the AZ prison where they live in open tents and wear black & white stripes & bedroom slippers. They have to earn shoes to walk outside in the hot sand. Add having to raise their own food (in other words: WORK), wash their own clothes in large tubs and be automatically shot for trying to escape across any fence. Good behavior gets you into school classes to change your life..classes will not be free or automatic. Trained attack dogs patrol all fences on the outside after dark.
 For rapists, murderers:
Automatic vasectomies so they cannot reproduce themselves after which they will have ONLY one chance in a prison situation. If they are caught with any kind of weapons, drugs, or commit any crime while in prison....they are tatooed with a number & transported to a remote island to serve out the remainder of their sentence.. No pardons and no parole boards..just hard time!! On the island..they are left with only basic necessities & books to learn self sufficiency. oh and uh.......once on the island, the only law: SURVIVAL of the fittest and THAT will still be more merciful than they were to the victims they raped-killed etc.

Several years ago I watched a movie called Star Chamber. Don't know if it's still available but if you can find it, it's well worth watching. It's about a group of judges who form their own covert personal court. They choose cases where the offender has beaten the system on a technicality. They try these cases among themselves to come to a verdict, then carry out the verdict. It's a great movie, one that makes you want that kind of system in real life. Doubt if it would ever work though, not sure there's enough clean judges out there to form the group.

a vasectomy is reversable, did you read any of the studies his link directed you to. the blog is simply making a suggestion to curb the crime. me thinks we would have a lot less crime if criminals were just threatened by this.... either way it would provide the final link in the chain to complete tests

The point is to slow the reproduction of the genetic strands that produce impulsive violence. A little research shows that just over 85% of the inmates incarcerated for violent crimes had a father who was also convicted, AND that only 12% of first time convictions had children. In comparison, 34% of "property" crimes were committed by fathers. Only 6% of all persons in federal prisons were women. Of those 6% only 8% of those were convicted for violent crimes. (USDOJ - 2002)

Why waste time on a vasectomy that can be reversed why not just go straight down the gentic engineering route; where the gene that influences the propensity for violence can be removed or in someway altered to reduce the possibility of people having a an inate desire that is as much to do with social conditioning as it is to do with biological predisposition.
Then you can create a new human race that will tolerate every injustice within the society they live including that from the so called powers that be, oh and while you are at it you could also remove the gene that causes people to be gay,or intelligent and tamper with the neurons to see if we can develop a workforce that will work longer hours for less pay and without complaint. Will accept whatever is thrown their way without questioning........many, many of the things we accept as the norm in our lives today have been won by the use of violence whether that be corporate, governmental, or more subversive groups within our society
Well now doesn't that sound like a recipe for disaster....... what about trying (and forgive me for this wild concept) educating people, ensuring that they develop in homes with parents who have the ability to ensure that the children don't suffer from global developmental delay. Parents that are able to repremand their children for the wrong doings as a child thereby instilling morals guidance and respect for others.................radical i know LOL
