and receive no jail time. The offender is a cop.
The Chicago cop who was convicted of beating a female bartender half his size received no jail time for his crime. As discussed earlier this month, Chicago cop Anthony Abbate was convicted of beating bartender Karolina Obrycka, after she refused to serve him while he was drunk. The beating was caught on video, and witnessed by numerous people. Abbate faced up to 5 years in prison, however Federal District Court judge John Flemming sentenced him to only 2 years probation and 130 hours of community service, while also mandating that he undergo an alcohol evaluation, take anger management classes, and obey an 8PM to 6AM curfew. Abbate remains a Chicago cop, although efforts are being made to fire him. It is unclear whether those efforts will succeed. The judge who imposed this sentence should be removed from the bench!

he lost his temper. totally blew his cool. where did he just come from? a murder of five kids or something by the father who had no money to feed them with, and no rent money, and no car and no hope at at all. and he went down to the bank to rob it, and chickened out. he just couldn't pull the job, so he kinda flipped and let the kids have it and himself. wait until you do the job 24/7/366 before you throw the book the chair and the hangman at this cop. police youselves then. the cops may just up and quit. and we'll make everything legal. no crime see, cause nothing is a crime. that's one way of getting rid of crime.

The thing I have always advocated is that people who are in power and are trusted because of their job should recieve double tha maximum punishment when they offend. Cops that are caught while driving drunk should not be looked at for their service, but looked at as they fully know what the laws are. They are out there stopping DUI offenders, so why do they get a slap on the wrist? These people and the badge are looked at as honest trust worth individuals. What does a parent tell a child when they are in danger? Go to a police officer. I have seen the video of the woman being beaten. How in Hell could they let that slide? They should look at his arrest record while on duty. If they find he arrested one person for assault, then they should put his butt in prison for quite a few years. No special treatement.
Just my ramblings.

I took care of a young woman years ago that was shot in the head by her cop boyfriend.. instant lobotomy.. he said it was an accident when handling his gun.. the doctors didn't do her any favors by saving her life.. she is an infant now.. her mom had to quit her job to take care of her and her child.. the cop got off.. never even went to a hearing .. and he never came to see her at the hospital.. not once..

I think the main reason for his curfew might be so that the others in the bar don't run into him again and handle the situation appropriately by maybe hospitalizing him in the same way , since the judge has set a presidence for such situations , gee wiz all they get is probation too ??? Chicago street justice at it's finest when they catch up with him , might be able to walk again but not without a cane .......

Snidegrass:
He was a police officer: to serve and protect! Ever hear of it? It sounds nothing like :
To brutally attack, especially the smaller, unarmed and female, for refusing to serve you
No one shanghaied him and forced him into the uniform. He voluntarily became a police officer! Their job is to uphold the law, to prevent such crimes, and when one of them not only falls short of doing what he has voluntarily committed himself to do, and what he is paid to do, and goes so far as to become the criminal - in such a nasty crime as that, especially, then he should be held more accountable for his actions, not less, than the average citizen.
There is no justification for a man to brutally beat a woman. If it was any other man, even if the woman was armed and actively trying to kill him, he'd still get more of a sentence for using unnecessary force, maybe even attempted murder!
And, quite frankly, if he flies off the handle in that manner, with that little provocation, I would hate to see what he's capable of when he's all pissy because he can't have a drink and some poor sap tries to resist arrest!
Just down the road from where I am, less than a mile, a guy was killed by a police officer because the police officer said "I want to talk to you" and the guy said "Well, I don't want to talk to you." He was expressing an opinion, he wasn't trying to leave, he wasn't attacking anyone. He was tasered for expressing his opinion because that was called resisting arrest, instead of being a smart ass who was exercising his freedom of speech as it should have been called, and he died from it - had a heart attack.
That's on top of the several grannies and pre-teen girls, some of whom were handcuffed and locked in the back of a police car at the time, who were also tasered a bit further down the road, in Tucson.
The police in America - so many of them, in so many cities - are just totally out of control and acting more like Gestapo than anyone who ever meant to serve and protect anyone!
And, for all that, there is simply no justification, whatsoever!

Even the most twisted mind cannot class beating a barmaid senseless as a form of occupational therapy.
Cops have a hard job, but so do bridge builders, and soldiers and merchant seamen...If a man can't cut it, he should resign, and find more suitable work.
Criminals who hide behind a badge are no bett4er the gangsters they work to put in jail
Did I say that clearly ? I didn't wish to hide behind a bunch of jibberish !.
