I'm a director of a new preschool...only been open for a little over a year (April 26th-1st anniversary). Tomorrow is our Pre-K - Kindergarten graduation. To some this is silly, but to the parents...it means everything.
I have to give a speech in front of 70+ parents, grandparents, etc. I am not a public speaker...I'm very nervous...
Please read it and give honest opinion as if you were a parent sitting at your 5 year olds graduation....thanks in advance!
I would like to welcome you all to the very first (insert school name here) graduation! The months of preparing for the school to open and our first open house were such a thrill for me. I was beaming at being the Director at such a warm and loving school.
We have a staff that to me...is bar none. I was just waiting to meet all of you and share with you the caring and love that we have to give to you and your children. Many of you we met at our first open house. The day the doors opened was so exciting. The energy in the school was amazing.
As the year has gone by, I have watched each and every one of our graduates grow and mature. I enjoyed every minute of every day being a part of your children's lives. I am grateful to have shared in that, so I thank you. I also want to add that it has been my pleasure to meet wonderful grandparents, aunts and uncles that are such a hugh part of our school.
I want to thank our teachers for their warmth, and compation. Head teachers and assistants working together to make the classrooms "work" is what makes happy children. And a special thanks to (owners names) for having this dream and making me a part of it all!

There are parts that I did not fill in.....
I forgot to include that I put together a DVD of the children with music and pictures starting in Sep and going right up to a week ago. After the ceremony where they get there deplomas....in the room with the cookies and such, we will be showing the DVD. Copies were made for all of the families to take home. The DVD included all of the fun things the children have done throughout the year...visitors to the school, trips they went on...experiments they did...really cute stuff.

It is about graduating 5 year olds. Keep the tone light, and happy. Be the kind of person they want to have teaching and encouraging their child. Not too formal, not to structured.
I would focus on the school and its programs more than how you feel about them.
Change
have to give - have given done deed
I also want to add it has been my pleasure - It is my pleasure
As the year has gone by - In the past year
Relax. They will like you, speaking as your normal self, and you will do that best.
They will applaud no matter what you say. Many will be thinking about what they will be saying to you. A big smile will be as successful as fine words. The one on your profile is just right.
Good Luck.

I would start with saying "Hello everyone my name is _________ and I am very please to such a wonderful turn out for our first ever graduation.
Though, I am the director, I must give a vast amount of credit to my staff for they have not only given their precious time, but, their heart to helping each kid learn, have fun and to work well with others.
Now, this just a suggestion. I think only your opening needed some tweaking.
Take whatever you find here and kneaded with what feels right for you.
Remember, it was you and your staff that did such a great job helping these kids learn and have fun, bravo

It is fine....
Print it out....and stand somewhere and read it out loud a few times.....to yourself...or whomever....OUTLOUD is important.
Practice....it helps a lot.
A few times, and you will be so much more comfortable.
It is fine...be you....no worries.....
