Last month, I had to visit a jobsite on Miami Beach. It was the day after a heavy rain and the streets were still flooded. There was no choice but to park sideways along the construction fence to try and avoid a puddle... unfortunately it was up to my ankles at the shallow spot. I measured for some cabinets and checked to see how the job was progressing and 'bailed' out as fast as I could. On the way back to the office, I stopped at Wal-Mart for some cheap shoes to make it through the day. My selection was a pair of black canvas boat shoes... $10 Soft and comfortable, they didn't need to be broken in. I liked them so much, I began to wear them nearly everywhere... They are so light, a few times I forgot I was wearing shoes. After 2 weeks I noticed I could feel everything under foot and that's not a good idea when walking concrete floors in the factory and job sites. I started to develop foot pain. Annoying foot pain. I don't remember this with my other shoes. So, it was again back to Wal-Mart, but this time it was for some construction boots. At first, I though I was making a mistake as they were more painful than the soft shoes... I persisted and little by little the pain went away. Today, I was walking in the factory and realized the pain was gone.
I know a guy who is a field supervisor, 6'-4" at 235 pounds. He wears Army boots with extra padded insoles... because nothing else works for him.
So, me and my boots are groovin' with happy feet this week!
