Have you noticed that people have stopped dancing? This phenomenon is symbolic of the multitudes of bodies with dead souls that predominate in our sad land. The under 30 population doesn't even know how to dance. Schools no longer have sock hops. There is no such thing as a Top 40 radio station. Heck, I don't know what the current pop tunes are, if there are any. My fraternity at Georgia Tech usually had a dance every other weekend. Now such things are once a season, at best,
I am allowed to date only when out of state or when out state ladies visit me. The last time I had a date was in 2007, an archaeologist from the nation of Colombia. She wanted to go dancing. We vainly tried to find a disco or night club in northside Atlanta, where we could go dancing. All I had known ten years ago when first single, were long closed. Oh there were bars and "sports lounges" where you could get drunk watching cable TV, but no dance floors. We finally decided to put my stereo out on the carport and have a private sock hop. Several teenagers walked by. They were fascinated because they had never seen Latin or disco style dancing before. Dancing at a rave . . .if you can call it that . . . consists of jumping up and down alone while getting stoned. They asked where they could get CD's of the cool new rock groups I had discovered like the Allman Brothers, Lynard Skinnard, ARS and the BeeGees.
Well, in fact, the only time I get to dance these days is at tribal festivals. Creek Indian music is to a syncopated, Caribbean beat, not the boom, boom, boom of White Buffalo Calf type Injuns. Men and women dance hand in hand in our Stomp Dance - initially in a format something like the Virginia Reel, then finally in a conga line that commemorates our ancestors ancient journey from the Mexican Highlands to Georgia. It is fun and we do hold hands!
The Creeks, the Celts and the Shakers knew that the Horned Serpent (Satan) really didn't like people to dance. It was against everything the Devil stands for. Here is one of my favorite old Celtic songs that the Shakers also loved. . , The Lord of the Dance . . . Go dance and send the Pharisees and fascists back to Hell! Remember neither Jesus nor our founding fathers were "good" conservatives.
I danced in the morning when the world was begun I danced in the Moon & the Stars & the Sun I came down from Heaven & I danced on Earth At Bethlehem I had my birth:
Dance then, wherever you may be I am the Lord of the Dance, said He! And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He! (...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)
I danced for the scribe & the pharisee But they would not dance & they wouldn't follow me I danced for fishermen, for James & John They came with me & the Dance went on:
I danced on the Sabbath & I cured the lame The holy people said it was a shame! They whipped & they stripped & they hung me high And they left me there on a cross to die!
I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black It's hard to dance with the devil on your back They buried my body & they thought I'd gone But I am the Dance & I still go on!
They cut me down and I leapt up high I am the Life that'll never, never die! I'll live in you if you'll live in Me - I am the Lord of the Dance, said He
