Yesterday, my immigration was finalised and I became an American citizen, having dual citizenship now to the US and the UK.

Anyone who says the immigration interview is a breeze is a liar!

For some reason the immigration staff are very starch, Gregg tried to make a joke with the officer when we first went in, but it bounced off like water off of a ducks back.
Stern faced and straight to business, it does make you feel very on edge, even tho you haven’t done anything wrong!!
The immigration officer I saw when I first came in the country was like that too, so it must be something they are deliberately trained to do.
To make you ill at ease so you slip up on untruths? I don’t know. And even tho I had nothing to hide, it made me feel very nervous.

I could hear myself slightly stammering as yesterday’s officer asked me very direct questions about my life etc.
Then he would take long pauses just looking at the paperwork, making a ‘Uhuh” sound now and again.

Finally after seeing all the evidence of Gregg and mine’s relationship he eventually cracked a smile and said “Approved!”

Relieved it was all over, and at the end of all the procedures involved with immigration, we decided to celebrate at the Red lobster restaurant.

We arrived at 7 pm, it wasn’t very busy so we were taken straight to a table. The meal arrived very quickly, good service one could think at first.
Then, before I had even finished my dinner the waitress came and asked us if we wanted dessert.
How the heck would I know whether I wanted dessert yet or not? I hadn’t even looked at the dessert menu let alone finished my dinner!

“I’ll come back and take your order for dessert when you’ve seen the menu.” She said when Gregg pointed out that we hadn’t decided yet.

As soon as I had put my knife and fork down she was back at the table with pen and pad. She stood over me as I flipped through the dessert menu. I was still chewing on my last morsel of dinner!

I pointed at the chocolate cake on the menu and she was gone, off with her order to the kitchen.
Seconds later the cake arrived.
As I was still working on my dessert she was back again with the bill. “Come back and see us again soon!” She said, after laying the bill on the table and scurrying off.

I hadn’t even finished dessert, how did she know if I wanted coffee or not? She didn’t ask and certainly didn’t give me a chance to say anything.

We left at 7.55 pm, we hadn’t even been there a full hour, and this was supposed to be a celebration evening.
We had felt very rushed the whole time we were there, and it wasn’t as if the place was busy requiring tables to be freed up for the next sitting.

We got home and opened a bottle of champagne, a more relaxing time altogether, and I think now we would have been better off eating at home.
I even had to take indigestion tablets because our meal had been so rushed.

Needless to say we wont be going to the Red lobster again!!!

Next time we have to celebrate anything, we’ll either look for a different place to eat, or fire up some coals and eat at home!!

Wonderful news gf ... Perhaps the waitress used to work for immigration ... seems everyone that day was wanting to make you feel ill at ease. Fortunately you can rest easy now. I'm celebrating with you.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!

One of the reasons I am leaving the U.S. is that to legally immigrate to the U.S is absolute hell. What you went through for your wait for a visa and then for AOS is a cake walk compared to what my wife in China would have gone through.

We seriously thought about flying her to Mexico, then to Canada with a plane change in the U.S. so she could just walk out of the airport and we would make her disappear. It is easier, faster, and cheaper to get a green card/citizenship once you are here illegally than it is to do it correctly from the start.

But you are here and we welcome you! Enjoy your new home and all the wonderful people that are here!

Those places try to maximize the number of sittings per table per night.

Now thatyou are offically a Gringo, a BarBQ joint might be considered more traditional. At the risk of seeming predjuced, the BarBQ will taste best if the cook is black, and, preferably a Baptist, not sure why, it's just that way.

I'm sure the celebration at home turned out better. Congratulations !

PS You forgot to mention beer, trucks, and rifles (she said she prefers them to pistols) .
