If you noticed I was not online last night, this is why. I'm glad to have my power back on.
A Microburst came through our town, the winds were like tornado winds, I've never seen anything like it, we had large hail too and heavy rain. It sounded like the hail was going to come right through the roof, through our ceiling, that's how bad it was. It knocked out our power for 8 hours. We couldn't open the fridge. The wind was so strong, it snapped a shingle in half from our building and blew it to the ground.
Today we took a drive to see what the devastation was in Old Wethersfield, CT, that is just one town over from where we live. I had that it was very bad from people I spoke to at the yard sales this morning. We could not believe our eyes when we saw the town Green, this is a very old town from the 1600s. Ancient huge trees had been uprooted, we had a camera with us so my bf took a picture. We drove a bit further in the same town, a large tree had crashed through a person's house and came out the back of it. I had tears in my eyes when I saw that. I just hope no one was hurt. We saw another house where a tree had hit their porch and a shed in our town with a tree that demolished it. My bf said he saw downed power lines too. It was scary driving around there because there was no power so all of the streets lights were out too, that sure doesn't help with the traffic pattern. Some of the streets were blocked off because of downed power lines and trees. I was glad to get back home.
We were extremely lucky and we got our power back on at around 1:30 this morning. The town of Old Wethersfield and the main road getting there has no power. I feel so bad for the people who live there, and the stores surrounding that area are not open either so they are losing business. One store was boarded up in the front, our guess, the glass probably blew in. We saw that one person had a generator attached to a pole near his house. I don't know how these people are getting by, especially with not being able to cook. I sure hope things settle down soon in that area.

I was caught in a bad storm like that once, during Carnival, in Guaymas, Mexico. It blew out windows, knocked water tanks off of roofs, with hurrican speed winds..
When the rain stopped, everybody came back out of the buildings and went right back to celebrating. The bands cranked back up, and they kept drinking, and dancing around the debris in the streets until about 2:00 AM, They party hearty, and treated us very well.

The year before Katrina screwed up New Orleans, we had 4 hurricanes hit in FL. Hurricane Charlie went right over my house. When another hurricane was predicted to come towards Orlando we drove to Tampa to avoid it but it changed course and went to Tampa.
Only 3 of the hurricanes taunted my house but each one left us without electricity for about 8 days each in the September HEAT. In times of crises people come together and help each other. Most of us in the neighborhood helped out the elderly and kept close eyes on each other. Neighborhoods would do grilling trying to save our food. Everyone helped out.
We whined about our damage, then the following year Katrina visited LA and many of us realized how damn lucky we were, well I least I realized it.
Not much warning with microbursts is there?

No there wasn't much warning about the microburst. I did hear about it on TV but never imagined it would be as bad as it was. I was not familiar with them having never seen one before. If I had known how bad, I never would have attempted a shopping trip yesterday, but luckily I was at home when it hit.
