To each his own, but I just don't like to see the body covered in tattoos so that the beauty of the human body can not be seen. Although I have seen tattoos that are tasteful. But like you, I can't seem to see one I like well enough to put on my body. And there have been only a few where I thought the colors and tattoo were excellent in color and beauty.

I don't like tons of tattoos all over anyone, men or women but one or two tasteful are fine. As far as your daughter goes, my husband got one in memory of his daughter put on himself, the only tattoo he ever had, it wasn't very large but it was huge as far as my daughter was concerned in her heart, that he would do that for her. Many tattoos mean something for people, it's not just a mark. I have a small one, gotten the first year my son was born, again it means something and the only one I have. Lost

None here either. I just never have cared for them. My son though is a tatto artist in New Orleans now. As a kid he loved to draw and was actually pretty good and a few years ago started doing this. To each their own but I still don't like them.

I love the art work, but I don't have one. A well drawn tat is awesome, but those jailhouse Indian ink tats just look tacky.
Facial tats look a little odd to me too. Mike Tyson looks ridiculous to me, but don't tell him that. I need both my ears to play music.

You're not the only one without any. Tattoo's have become common but there are lots of people who don't have one. I got mine when i was 15. It's 3 little shooting stars on my shoulder. It has significance and meaning to me. I remember all the neighbors having a fit "you'll go to hell" blah blah blah. I just pointed out the fact that they all had their ears pierced, that shut them up quick.
If you decide to get something, make it mean something. Loved ones names, grandchildrens faces or names. Something that has significance to you. You don't have to get a skull on your chest.
If you decide that you really want one, think about who you are first. What makes you tick or makes you the happiest. You''ll come up with something special.
I drew mine myself. I knew what i wanted and i doodled a rough draft of it.
make sure it reflects you.

I doubt you are the only one without tats...
And I do have one.. on my left shoulder blade. It is a Native American hoop of friendship, with one red rose to signify my love for those I do.. and a white feather to signify my hope for peace. It was my suggestion that the tat artist went with and he did a fine job.
I remember a thread in the S & R forum about the tats and how they are the markings of people that are earth bound devils. What a bunch of hooey.
It comes to personal preference.. even MY dad who is ultra-conservative looked at the tat and said it was a work of art.. and I made sure that it was placed on an area of my body that will not sag with age.... shoulder blade in the back is just skin covering bone.
While I do not favor the people that cover themselves with the tats, I am aware it is their body and their right to do whatever they wish to it and I am fine with it. And I believe in dating areas it still is a question that a lot of people do ask when dating someone, heck, it is even a category here.... besides if things progress in the relationship, they will find out anyway.. LOL...
And I plan on one other tat.. on my ankle.. a mustang when I achieve my dream of my horses with a simple caption under.. dreams happen!
Peace Out...

Add me to the list. Nothing against them...just love my skin as is.
Sometimes I run into women whose tats are very mmmm...intriguing, sexy, and so on. But for me, usually, that is not the case. It seems to add new energies in the space of interaction...like memory or story or whatever to which I have no attachment or for which I have no shared meanings, but which then are constantly in the space.
The one's that tell me 'Dave's Slut' or 'Dave's Slave' make me look around for 'Dave', even if she says that relationship is long over. Do I know that for sure? I'll tell ya what...it makes sounds in the night a little creepier!
I understand people doing them with regards to special events and people, like the birth of children, or names of children or something similiar. But again...it's like a constant presence of something to which I am minimally connected. Kind of like coming to bed with your family pictures. I suppose the glass and frame might protect the pic, but ooooh...uncomfortable!
In the presence of heavily tattooed folks, I always wonder what the story is that turns one's skin into canvas in a semi-permanent art form. I can see the delight in doing it for a bit...but for relatively forever...I lose being able to touch the desire to do so.
But the world is of difference, and I don't have to date, mate, wed or whatever every human being on the planet. Good thing. I think my accounts would really hangup on that.

I don't have a tat.
As a kid I read how wanted people are often caught by identifying marks, like tattoos. I never got one, trying to keep my options open for major criminality, later on, so to speak.
I often admired some tatoos, but never found one I wanted to look at every day the Japanese card dealers have big pictures from wrist, up the arm, to back of the shoulder, that move and work, as the arm deals cards. If I get one, it will be a Japanese Dragon.
I always heard that I would regret it later in life, but no one has ever said to me "Hey Ttom, your ratty old wrinkled hide sure looks good, no tattoos". Nope, not even once !
As a merchant mariner, I have seen lots of ink work, ranging from abysmal to beautiful. Some commemorate great events, and some are reminders of things best forgotten. But when it comes to hauling on a line, those with tattoos and those without them pretty much pull equally hard !
If a young person really wants one, with a clear mind, I say go for it. The long term results will be about as important as that C in Behavior on your first grade report card.

No tats here either. When I was young I thought they were cool, but I never had the chance to get any, as I was partially raised by my grandparents and then my first husband and I both worked full time. There was never any money for me to do much of anything "extra."
Now I am glad that I didnt get any... the reason? Well to be honest, I am now in the very slow process(lol) of getting my body in shape and I am enjoying admiring my work. I think having a tat would just take away from that. WELL, that's one reason.....lol
I am pretty conservative and although I believe "to each their own" , I also know that we live in a society where too many tats are looked down upon by many and I think a part of that is because of what they have represented to people in the past. It seemed to me that 30 something years ago, they were mostly worn by bikers, felons, hippies, and potheads. NOW, however, any young person may decide they want them for the "art" or the "meaning."
I think it is just sad though that now, even though times have changed, it appears that many people haven't. They continue to look down at those that appear different, even if and when they have good hearts.

Well there is a fine line between tasteful and tackey. I have five tats myself. Four that I still like. One I got on impulse. I had money and an hour of free time and didnt really think it through. Women with tats? Well. Most Ive seen are a turn off. Especially the ones above their butts. Only about one in fifty look good. My biggest turn off is a woman with peirced nips. Kinda funny since mind are peirced.

I remember in the early 90's there was a craze in England about getting tatoos of butterflies. (on women of course) on thier buttocks or top of thier thighs and even on thier cleavage. I was very tempted to get one on my cleavage, just a small one, but then my friend had it done and she said it hurt like hell!
So being the pain coward.. I declined.

Add me to the list of no ink, cookie.
I've always enjoyed seeing the work on other people...when it's GOOD work....but then when it's NOT good....I think Eeeeeeeewww...they have to live with that forever!
Personally, I don't mind tattoos on a man...but I rarely see tattoos on a woman that are attractive. I don't know what's up with my thinking on that.
Most anyone with tattoos claims they allllll have meanings....and for many with tattoos, it's a lifestyle/habit they started & never stop. I think many of the people today who get one or two tattoos are just following the fad. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

A friend's young daughter told me she had twelve stars tattooed on various parts of her anatomy. She smirked "Do you know why" sure an old man had no idea.
I answered" It's like a connect the dots picture, and you play it with your tongue". Her eyes lit up, and we're now better friends, alike in spirit if not age.

I have two tats, one on each arm, both came after turning fifty, both have some meaning to me (one didn't turn out exactly like I wanted and still want to have it reworked) I always been of the thinking each to their own but feel the tattoo craze has gone overboard and perdict in 10 to 20 years tat removal will be a hot business to be into.

I always hated them until I got my first. I now have 2 tats. One is where they call it a "tramp stamp", but mine is small. It is the sign for freedom. The meaning is my a** is free. I got it when my divorce was final.
My second came when I turned 45. A small butterfly above my toe next to the baby toe. With the sun it has faded and I will have it redone soon just to brighten it up. At that time I will have my "tramp stamp" added to. I designed one to symbolize my 6 children (2 are dead), and my parents who gave me life. All are a pain in the a** and all free to be in my life. It is a string of hearts intertwined to show our connection of love. I just need to somehow add my 3 Godchildren to it. I will love it because I designed it with special meanings.
I do them for me and if others do not like them I don't care. How they will look when I am 90 worries me none.
They said ear piercings were a fad too. I have 6 piercings in my ears but only wear one earring at the top of my ear for my Daddy. I got that when he was dying 22 years ago. People are still doing it....................
Lastly why does it matter if it is a woman or a man? Why should it matter if anyone else approves? Does it bother others who have no tats when someone thinks they should have one or more?

I grew up getto. At twelve years old myself and two 13 year old boys sat in my living room. Of course me wanting to show how tough I was. I take the taped needles and a bottle of indian ink. I proceeded to give myself a tat of my 3 initials. It is on my left wrist. It does look like crap. I always keep it covered with a watch. It wasn't one of my prouder moments. Most people say they can hardly see it. I see it very well and am ashamed I was so foolish. The art thing is something else. I love art of all kinds and tats too. To me tats are kind of like they suit you or they don't. Kinda like a beard or mustache on a man. It either fits or it doesn't.

I agree with what justme said here...to each his/her own. It's nobody's business basically. I love looking at tattoos on other people. I actually even have a collection of images that I've saved on my computer over time. One bleary sunday morning, we were earing breakfast in the ship's mess deck. One fellow said he got a tattoo last night, and I almost asked if it was a really stupid one, like a spider web on his elbow. For once, and probally the only time inmy life, I bit my tongue, said nothing.
Then he rolled up his sleeve, and showed us the new spider web on his elbow.
