.....AGAIN!
I cannot believe some of the crap going on here in blogland again. It appears to me the moderators of the site have decided to leave the playground once again & not moderate much of anything.
I have seen so many examples lately of why MD put the one blog rule into effect last year.
There are so many blogs that have been posted in the last 2 or 3 weeks that people are chatting on...people are arguing on.....and the bloggers are not taking personal responsibility for what is being done on their blogs.
I don't care if you call yourself peaceful....right wing, left wing, or no wing at all.....it's not just about YOU. How is it certain people think it is their place to respond to comments on someone elses blog? And what's with all of the personal attacks?
MatchDoctor has tried to make it clear....the blogs are for stand alone topics. If you wish to discuss something, it should be posted in the forums. Blogs are not for questions or polls. These items should also be posted in the forums. And upon closing the chat room, Matchdoctor has posted a direct message:
Matchdoctor Chat Rooms
IM and Chat Services have been permanently removed. Please use our extensive forums, found here. I can hear people now saying "well wth does she think she is?" I'll tell you who I am. I am a long standing member of this great site who takes pride & interest in the way it is utilized...one who would like to see the site remain open & used in responsible manner. But every time the moderators go into hiding, people run crazy around here abusing the manner in which MD has intended the site to be used.
I'll get off my soapbox now. This blog came to mind just now when I saw a lengthy idiotic comment by someone posing as a peaceful person, attacking the OP of the blog. This so called peaceful person is apparently someone who has been here before under another nic....someone who seems to have an axe to grind amongst others here. Where are the moderators when we need them?

rules are fine, but with everyone considered to be armed and dangerous, enforcing them can be a big problem. refer to the bill of rights. etc. so.....good luck. be more broad minded, open minded in an era of glasnost and perestroika. peace. lotsa veterans out there with huge axes to grind honey. go along with playing tag and the gag. ez does it.

On some blogs...Unlimited comments are bringing back the spirit of the old MD...On others, it's simply a means to attack others who have posted on the blog. I've seen it, and been a victim.
...Blogger's need to take responsibility for their own creations. I moderate my own blogs and believe others should do so.
I usually don't disagree with you, however here I will. Mod's cannot do it all. It is up to us as adults who are allegedly mature to handle our own creations. Sadly, many don't and things get out of hand...Which in a way, although I hate to say it, does show that one comment is best.

I dont think its multiple comments that start the trouble..
What starts it is people posting about another posters comment on the blog, and not about the blog itself. This is when arguing starts.
This however cannot be policed. Even if one had just one comment to use, it can still be used to attack a previous comment, then others jump in to defend them... etc etc etc...
All rather childish, but there ya go.
I prefer to have more than one comment availibility for one reason .. sometimes what I have said gets taken out of context or twisted, so I like to return to explain my comment in more detail if I need to.

the bloggers are not taking personal responsibility for what is being done on their blogs. It is quite evident that many so called adults do not know how to conduct themselves in responsible adult manner....it's still greed for oneupmanship....if that is even a word....if it's not a word...fill in the blank!

For me...
One comment doth not lead to meaningful exchange as much as it leads to back slaps and applause. For me, it also makes it easier for an author to exclude the non-backslappers, because its take a potshot and fly. With multiple response posting...it seems people feel more pulled towards engaging.
Is all the engaging good? We know it's not. We can't make humans play nicely. We can make them not play, but once they start to play, it's pretty challenging to get them to play nicely. The struggle for minimal amounts of status and ego awards easily absorbs people in the result of not playing nicely.
I think though that it suggests a need for some research to understand the relationship between blog writing and responses, to actually connecting, getting a date, gettin nekkid wid someone, or whatever is the goal of someone being on the site. Sometimes I shake my head and wonder..."who would be attracted to someone who writes/thinks like that and makes it so public?", and then I remember..."oh yeah...a fellow human being."
If ya step back and look at what you've written Liss...can you feel the dynamic that says...'those people?'
Classic small community dynamic eh? "THOSE people are the problem."
I went over and checked the house...it was empty.

I came here to have fun. Period. Not looking for a woman, not to stir discontent, not to be stalked again by idiots. When someone attacks me for no reason, I have two choices. I can ignore them completely, or I can let them know they're not fooling anyone and remind them that there's a good chance we may see each other in public where some of this could lose it's humor.
I'll be ignoring them from now on, and just enjoying myself. The message should be received by now.
I agree with all that you've stated, and own my part in said ridiculousness. While it may seem contemptuous, I'm sitting laughing at whatnot. That's not fair to other people who have nothing to do with it. But I do have the right to defend myself, this is still America.

The one comment ber blog made things more peaceful, but also made them quieter. It clearly worked in keeping down the dementia. But having the rule also proved the following equation.
Conflict=traffic. Traffic=money
Not hard to figure out why the rule was lifted.

One thing I've learned is that I can't change anyone but I can change how I react to them. Blogs are blogs and I find it the same on sites that are NOT dating sites at all. There are people needing to strike out for whatever their reasons are and it causes chaos because, guess what...people let it, people feed on it.
There have been times I've been attacked and choses to ignore, was it hard not to reply, yes sometimes. My mind wrote a thousand blogs with a tongue that can cut like a razor but I didn't post any replies. Now when I see insults or disputes, I simply quit reading because I can. Much more serene for me not to get involved and I can't be sucked in anymore. Nevermore.

I've said this to quite a few people in response to their comments on my blog & I feel it's something I want to lay out publicly.
Quite often, in this venue, as well as the "real" world, it's not WHAT people say, but it's HOW they say it. And again, personal attacks are totally without merit.
Now..with that said, I've been staying close by iwhile I try to get some house work done in order to POLICE my blog. Everything seems to be staying under control. At present, however, I'm going to throw some steaks on the grill & get some dinner together. Hope y'all don't get carried away while I'm gone!

It' a shame when you have to police your blog. I can call some of ours for ya, I went to school with half of them, and my Dad went to school with the other half. They're good guys, I'm sure they'd be glad to help.

I too am a long time member. I started out in the blogs, but then strayed to the forums. (not a word) I had many hours of fun there, but the nastiness invaded there as well. I rarely read them anymore, and even more rare do I post. So sad to see adults act like this. As someone else said, (too lazy to look back and see who) why would anyone be attracted to some of these people that post as they do.

Hi Miss, I was at work, as soon as I got on, I deleted his stupid rude comment.
Now, ttom has a point, one should leave it up for a bit, to let his own word hang himself, then delete and block, just as I did.
Am I bother what he said, no, of course not. Because it only has power when the person believe what an idiot or rude person says.
It's a simple form of bullying people and I don't get bullied.
The block and delete button work quite easily, lol

Some of the trolls assume we have no memory.
How likely is that I will change the opinion I have formed in a couple years of reading Ed's blogs and comments, just because of one comment, especially a rude, obscene, or vulgar comment. The same goes for any blogger who has posted a fair bit.
As far as MD, it is what it is now, what we have made it. It changes constantly, and each person must ask himself if he / she changed it for the better or worse.
I prefer the lively blogs, trolls and all, to the dwindleing peaceful site we were becoming a few months ago.. But then, I am a big, able fellow, with a cast iron hide. The most horrendous insults I have received elicit laughter not pain; then I counter-thrust. I am not totally displeased at occasionally having to take up my troll axe, and delight in a bit of rapier play. But in my play, I try to respect those of more tender sentiment.
In the long run, regulars fade away, one by one. Survival as a site depends on making new arrivals feel comfortable and welcome, FULLY integrated into the MD family.

Which is why I hardly ever blog anymore. It stays ugly in blog land because you can't please everyone and everyone gets offensive. Some try to rule the blogs and some just like to argue and keep the pot stirred.

Which is why I hardly ever blog anymore. It stays ugly in blog land because you can't please everyone and everyone gets offensive. Some try to rule the blogs and some just like to argue and keep the pot stirred. This is a shame ... I'm reminded of the saying I was told over and over as a kid "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." It's just words. How we react to them is our choice.
I also don't believe it's necessary to stay around to police your blog. It's fine if you have the time but if you don't you can always delete the crap when you do. Some might say the damage will have been done by then, but most bloggers sign in at least once a day. When we didn't have multiple comments we had counter blogging, as you have done here. Maybe it might be worth turning the whole thing on it's head ... at least the crap you read inspired you write. That has to be a good thing.
I agree with Ttom ... I prefer things the way they are now. I guess it's a natural law, everything has it's equal and opposite side, so if we are to have fun, lively blogs, exciting reading and exchanges, we have to expect the opposite to be going on too.
We reap what we sow ... don't feed the wolves and they might at least stay quiet for a while but they'll always be there, we have to find a way to live alongside them.
Don't be mad, Missy, I hate it when you get mad.
