Yesterday was a million dollar day. No doubt about it.
Took my daughters to the local children's park and we spent a few hours there messing around. We went shopping at some of our favorite stores. I'm surprised we didn't get kicked out of the dollar store. We were that annoying family that you hate to see. (Actually I can't remember ever seeing a family having that much fun in a store.) We had lunch at our favorite Mexican resturaunt and ice cream at Culver's later in the afternoon. Finished our day off going to Night at the Museum
As we were going into the theater, my oldest said to me, "Candy says you really liked the Hanna Montanna movie."
"Well, it wasn't a great movie, but I totally enjoyed seeing it with your sister. I wouldn't trade that for anything. Just like today."
"You wouldn't even trade it for a million bucks?"
"Wouldn't even think of it."
Most of the time when I tell people that I plan to spend time doing kid oriented things, they kind of roll their eyes and offer me their sympathy. Doesn't matter if it is men, women, mothers or fathers that I am talking to. Everyone seems to think there are better ways to spend your time than doing things your kids enjoy. Tomorrow people will ask me about my weekend. I'll tell them what a great weekend it was and the typical answer will be, "You should have came out and got drunk with us at the street dance. You really missed out." Okay, if you say so.
Am I the weird one because I enjoy spending time with my children? It's not just something I have to do because I am a parent, I actually enjoy it. I have never gotten a babysitter so I could go shopping or have a night out on the town with my friends. Maybe that makes me boring. I don't know.
I know I don't want to look back at my kid's childhood and say, "I wish I had spent more time doing things with them."
