Have we become a society that only has time for on line friends? Do people really bother to take the time for face to face friendships? Is life really that busy or are we so self absorbed that our time is too precious beyond a few typed words? Is a real conversation too challenging these days?

If you had a birthday party how many friends would attend? At your funeral how many friends will attend? Will anyone miss you when you leave this earth? Will you be missed if you leave this or any other site? Does anyone really care anymore? Is there really a world outside of your little screen? Can we converse without typing? Dare we try?

The online world is sitting waiting for you, at the click of a mouse.

For real life friends, you must extend yourself, and be a friend when they choose, sometimes, too.

That is too much effort for some people,

The online world serves to help initiate real world friendships, then real humanity takes over. If you want to know how long you will be missed online, take your finger out of a bowl of water, as long as the finger print lasts.

As far as online relationships, they are like online breakfasts; they don't leave the tummy full.

Online role playing is a shadow of reality, including playing the lover.

But to really talk involves a risk, if only that of giving out your pnone number.

Is anybody else ready to do that?

It is one of the downsides of the internet that it has become yet another way to insulate ourselves from face to face personal contact. People can play it even more safe now and have to risk even less. We live in a modern society that has grown deeply frightened of life as a whole. Internet or not. True intimacy always suffers under those conditions.

Observed - I think I heard them with the clicking of a key board.

Tom - As always you say some very true words. I know that I am always nervous to give out my number. Real conversation?................

Cookie - When you get a tat we can show off together.

Mik - Not so sure what "True intimacy" is anymore. I do know that it is not found on Yahoo as many suggest.

I have friends on here, yes, but in no way do they override my joy, love and closeness I have with my real life friends.

Online friends are in most cases really good for people self-esteem,which I am sure contribute to what your blog is truly saying.

People get far more compliments online then they ever do in real life and unlike in real life, you can delete or block them in an instant.

I have online friends and real life friends. The online ones I hope to meet in person on day, the real life ones have been my friends for what seem to be forever! lol

My online friends are important tho...

Im in the middle of a very complicated 5 image portrait for an online friend, she cant see it till its finished, and its coming along really well, and I do this for an online friend. so, yes online friends are important too sometimes.

I think it can make it easy for people to avoid real life. Me, I have to be touched for it to be real.

Ed- I have some pretty awesome online friends who are sometimes set deeper in my life than some of my person to person friends. I think people get slammed on line as well as getting compliments. However I agree that it is the compliments and the cute icons that win me over. On line is a bandaid to connecting with someone nice like you.

Charli - Someday I would love to meet you and see your artwork up close.

LTB- I can't touch you but I am real and understand what you are saying.
