The driving habits of people around here just are not improving. I don't know what's going on but twice this week I have come close to being sideswiped just because another car crossed over into my lane, just weaving down 2 lanes. I blared my horn at one but it was like she didn't even hear the noise.

Perhaps these people are just deep in thought not focusing on their driving? Of course there are the ones who should be pulled over for driving under the influence, but has there been such an increase in DUI's that I'm encountering so many?

I sat in the parking lot of Burger King the other day at a strip mall and watched the drivers as they encountered a 3-way stop at the intersection. I would say 80% of the drivers never came to a complete stop at the intersection. I watched several "close encounters" as I ate my sandwich. I'm thinking the cops should watch these people but then this is a strip mall parking lot, so don't know if that's considered personal property or not. Come to think of it, never heard of anyone getting a ticket for running a stop sign in a mall parking lot.

My son just purchased his first Harley Davidson motorcycle. He has told me how stupid people act towards motorcycles - they cut in front of him; they tailgate him; there is no respect for those on two wheels. We watch the news to see how many are injured or killed DAILY from motorcycle accidents. Just yesterday a driver with a stolen truck hit a motorcycle and DRAGGED him several feet, not even stopping to release the motorcycle from being attached to the truck with the driver of the motorcycle still entangled in the mess. It was a hit and run.

All I know is my defensive driving must be on high alert these days. There are just too many out there driving around with cell phones in their ears, totally oblivious to their surroundings, and others intent on listening to music, and those who perhaps are just "zoned out" by personal thoughts of home or work. Whatever their reasons, the rest of us need to be on the alert more than usual.
