..there is a lot of controversy..over..smoking Policies in enclosed spaces.. In Uk there is a blanket ban of smoking in pubs,, patrons hve to step outside ...which has been accepted ..better in the summertime I suppose,,..and there s a mess of old ciggarette butts outside the Door!! Should you Smoke around children Some research shows that children with parents who smoke are more prone to chest diseases...such as Asthma. The latest poll taken ,in UK,, when people were asked;- should smoking in Cars ...--with Children be Banned ..had this result- 81% asked thought yes , it should be banned and 19% thought ,,,no ..it shouldnt be .. but we should ...help the next generation live a healthy ..life? ...

Well, I don't know about if you are alone, but be responsible. I had a friend who was on a motorcycle and someone threw a lit cigarette out the window. It landed right on his engine and started his bike on fire. He had 90% of his body burned and after many months of trying to save him and horrifying pain, he died anyways. I'm sure there are other stories like this where maybe cars have started on fire. So besides children being in the cars, and forest fires or property burning, and just trash on the highways in general, I think smokers need to be responsible if they smoke outside period. Take care Lost

I don't even smoke, if the stuff is really that bad, ban it.
They won't because our gov't makes zillions of dollar off of them.

I think that a total ban on smoking altogether everywhere is slightly hypocritical of the governments who are happy to take the tax money. If however someone wishes to smoke in thier OWN car, in their OWN house, then it is thier choice. I also think its hypocritical of people to wave the damage to unborn babies through smoking flag, but legalise late abortions to fully formed healthy babies. If babyies have rights, then they do on BOTH counts.
What they dont say.. is that there are more alcohol related deaths than smoking, and children whos parents drink, are more likely to start drinking at an early age increasing the chance of liver damage. But for some reason the governments turn a blind eye to that.

Maine has a law that prohibits smoking in a car with a child, (dont quote me on age) 15 and under. I am a heavy smoker but will not smoke around children or a non smoker. My lungs, my choice. They made the choice not to be stupid.

I'm a smoker and have taken my time outside.. See more pollutants coming out of the cars - factories - power plants - restaurants. They concern me more. Sorry but I'm a very small smoke stack. I do however try to not smoke around those with problems or children.

Good topic LM As a non smoker I find it very distasteful for someone to light up in my presence, but I am also the type that will not say anything about it. I may just politely excuse myself from the area. I have a number of coworkers who light up on break, needless to say, I usually don't partake in their group discussions because of the foul air. I'm for a ban, even in cars where children, the innocent victims of unthinking adults are most effected. Three cheers for you for entertaining this subject.

what does the government ,,do with the money collected? is it used on Health concerns for the Nation?
by driving up the cost of health and after they take there cut to use how they see fit.
I don't smoke but as long as it is legal the gov needs to get out or out law it.
my health concerns are my choice not the nations.

.help the next generation live a healthy ..life? Yes, they should live healthy lives but that is not the primary concern of politicians. Tobacco generates billions in revenue that governments gladly receive at the expense of disease and death. One could also argue that fast food should be banned in order to promote healthier lifestyles. Take a peek at this chart to see the calories, fat and sodium that junk food contains. The calories some salads contain at fast food restaurants will astound you. I doubt that the government will want to put McDonald's, KFC and the rest of them out of business. We all know that smoking does not promote health and smokers would be wise to quit. The same could be said of extreme alcohol consumption. Banning booze is not on the agenda because like tobacco, alcohol generates enormous tax revenues. I am not a smoker but I don't want the government telling me that I can't smoke should I decide to take up that nasty habit.
However, I will take to the streets in protest if the government even hints at banning single malt scotch or Pilsner Urquell!!!!!

I am not a smoker and am very sensitive to it. My self I would like it if no one smoked. But what we are talking about is the FREEDOM to smoke. Everyday more and more rights are taken away from us, because IT IS FOR OUR OWN GOOD. What every happen to freedom of choice?
